#103 was seen twice today, this morning sitting at MO and this afternoon at 4:11 PM near the Mount Vernon East station as it was headed westbound light.

Metro-North's revamped maintenance locomotives begin to re-enter service

After undergoing an overhaul by Brookville Equipment Corp., the first of seven MTA Metro-North Railroad maintenance locomotives re-entered service last weekend. Around the same time, a second unit began its journey back to New York from Brookville's plant in Pennsylvania.

The remaining five units will cycle through a progressive locomotive overhaul program and gradually re-enter rescue and maintenance-of-way service for Metro-North through 2017. The overhaul is expected to add a minimum 20 years of service life to the locomotives, Brookville officials said in a press release.

Originally manufactured by General Motors Electro-Motive Diesel in 1964, the locomotives underwent a light overhaul more than 20 years ago. Brookville secured a contract to rebuild the seven units as GP35R locomotives in 2013.

Metro-North has acquired a GP35 that Brookville Equipment is rebuilding - it will become MNR #107. Am told the unit had originally been SOO #728; after become operated by the Wisconsin Central, the unit was sold to some short lines in OH before being stored and sold.
Does anyone know which short lines? Believe it had been operated as number #351.

and found this : found this : SOO 728 was built in May 1965, #30131, FN 7788-3. It became WC Ltd 728 in 1987 and was renumbered 2554 in January 1996. It was sold to On Track Rail Services as OTSX 351.

MNCR #107 was interchanged in Buffalo yesterday on its way to Harmon.

The #107 met up with #228 somewhere while that unit was on its way back from Altoona.. Both together were reported on their way to Selkirk in the consist of Q260. Let the routing shenanigans begin.

Quick question: What is the best time to catch the GP35s? There is one stationed at Mott Haven as a protect motor during peak hours and it seems on weekends they usually found at Croton or Stamford. For the former, what time do they get "in place" for the PM rush?

Per the run book all Hudson and Harlem yard jobs are "HTS" jobs. Harmon's are 1, 2 5,6 and 7. 1 and 2 are the switching and protect jobs, 5 - 7 are the yard jobs.

NWP's are 8 and 9. Brewster's 10 and 11. The numbers are the shift.

Brewster never uses the HTS designation on the radio. They are known as "P T Switcher" as only one crew is on at a time. NWP crew is know as "Job 82". Again, only one crew is on duty at a time.
