"New London next. Passengers must be in the REAR TWO CARS to exit at New London. If you are not in the REAR TWO CARS, please start walking back NOW!" ;-)

Bigger question, though-- is there anywhere in NLC for electrics to lay over clear of the main? It seems to me that only the two main tracks are under the wires through that area.

They could probably lay over on the adjacent freight track if they electrified it as long as it didn't interfere with freight operations.

The M-8's can't even use current platform at new london due to curvature, with doors at 1/4 point the doors would be at least 2 feet from the platform.
That would surpass the LIRR as for watch the gap...

I severely doubt we'll see M8s run on Shore Line East until they've got all the platforms doubled. I suspect the Guilford platform extension and siding wiring (both funded last February) will occur simultaneously.

New London looks like it would be a good package deal down the line. Straight high-level on the northbound track opposite the southbound high-level, with a pedestrian bridge to eliminate crossing the tracks, and service increases upon completion. Maybe built the South Lyme station at the same time. If CDOT really has their stuff together, they'd bundle in a layover facility in the Waterford boonies and elimination of the Miners Lane grade crossing (nothing to make the locals happy like eliminating a crossing with bad memories attached to it.)

I doubt you see a layover facility, the M-8's are by contract maintained by MNCR forces, a layover facility on Amtrak territory would be staffed by Amtrak or SLE.
this would be a cause to strike, if other than MNCR forces were used to service the trains.

Dutch has a good handle on the ACRE issues. And even with Amtrak operating SLE east of NH, and CDOT owning 100% of the units beyond 300, they are all part of pool service I believe, which lends credence to the maintenance by MNRR theory.

They'll need to get to 300 M8's before they can operate on SLE anyway. I think the last count is 138 in service. I also don't think they've been tested there yet. They were supposed to be tested this summer.

they still have not been tested east of new haven and no acces testing. as for who owns the cars has no bearing on where they will be operated.
all m-8's are in MNCR pool , non are assigned to SLE/Amtrak and non will be.

That's what I said, right? ;-) They'll all be in pool service, and the purchase agreement precludes any operation anywhere else until after 300 are delivered.

lets just say there is no Amtrak channels on radio, or stations east of New haven in ASI system.

Then why exactly did ConnDOT pay a pretty penny for the M8s to be able to operate on 60Hz?

not that hard for the radio show to program in the amtrack channels

Even the M-2's operate on 60 hz as MNCR's catenary is all 60 Hz.
The M-8 was ordered with capability to operate east of New Haven and capability to operate into NYP in future.
you are confusing 12.5 Kv with 25 Kv as catenary voltage, the frequency is same both east and west of new Haven.

ps what radio show ?? Imus in Morning ??

The entire station at New London is on a curve. From what Dutch says it doesn't sound like you'd ever be able to build a high level platform that would accommodate the M8's quarter-point doors.
