Sold!
The four P40DCs have been sold off to the Connecticut Department of Transportation (likely for service on Shore Line East) for a cool $3.8 million dollars. All four are together at the MMC awaiting transfer to their new owner.

Cool maybe CDOT can look and see how a rebuild P40DC looks like .

Or for that matter how one accelerates without all that darn clag ;-)

Be interesting to see how long (after the 10 year introductory period of course!) they retain their NJT colors.

NJT's are in pretty godawful shape too, so SLE riders won't even notice the difference!

No idea whether the NJT units smoke up as much of a storm as the other CDOT beaters.

At least these units are already ACSES rigged, hopefully the current ex-Amtrak units can be sent to GE Erie for
overhaul,as their P32's were.

are they geared any better for commuter service

all genesis locomotives are geared for 110 mph max.

What did ConnDOT do? Deice them with a salt solution? :( :( :P

that would actually be easy repair , the radiator compartment is basically empty other than air compressor.
yes that area rot out cause radiator fan sucks everything in there and area seems always flooded.

Says who? Why would they buy four units to replace EIGHT? M8's on Shore Line East are still nowhere near a reality, and they have new service coming on line in a shade over a year with NHHS (Hartford line...whatever they want to call it.) Maybe in the interim before the equipment is stretched thin again the NJT units will offer them some flexibility to properly service what they already have...but scrapping them? HIGHLY unlikely.

Perhaps one reason the NJT units were purchased is to permit multiple CDOT units to be sent out for rebuild vs. sending one at a time. Afterwards -whether or not they themselves go out for rebuild/top deck fixes- they would be part of the equipment pool and therefore be a net increase in the number of locos available. By the time they all would have been rebuilt (the GP40-2Hs included) added frequencies on SLE and the Hartford Line could be in order which could/would require the extra motive power.

the 4 NJT units were completely overhauled at Beech Grove prior to ACES service , they sure have not been used much since.

ConnDot should cycle the current P40's thru GE Erie, for overhaul, like they did with their P32's.
figure on the ex-NJT units will get patched and into service quick
