Strike vote on Sunday?
Transport Workers union leader Willie Brown warned local members to stand by for a strike authorization vote Sunday in a videotaped update of contract negotiations with SEPTA as talks enter the final stretch.

Management’s wage proposals mean TWU members’ wages would not keep pace with increases recently given to other public unions in the region, he says.

“We’re not going to accept lower wages,” says Brown, longtime president of TWU Local 234, which represents about 5,000 vehicle operators, mechanics and maintenance workers. “You deserve better. Your families deserve better.”
I believe this affects busses, trolleys, subway operators, mechanics and cleaners. The railroad is under a different contract. (correct me if I'm wrong)

AC: TWU Local 234 represents the SEPTA City Transit Division.
A strike would affect SEPTA CTD services - MFL, BSL and all City transit routes.

Red Arrow (Delaware County primarily including NHSL) and Frontier (mostly Norristown area routes) are under
different transit union contracts.
Regional Rail has railroad-union based contracts as compared to transit union representation.

The SEPTA CTD strike deadline is 12 midnight Sunday October 31-Monday November 1.

This would be a tough time for a CTD strike with SEPTA trying to recover from the ridership losses of the past 20
months from the pandemic and the result of a percentage of regular commuters working from home.

Driving has increased from commuters who chose to "social distance" in their own vehicles even with higher gas
prices. A CTD strike would only add more traffic to already busy main routes in and around Philadelphia.

Let's hope that a compromise can be reached and there is no CTD strike this year...MACTRAXX

RCT: Yes-Regional Rail ridership will increase - since they will be the only transit in operation in many areas
in the region. If Red Arrow as example continues to operate ridership will be lower without the MFL running
at 69th Street Terminal - the major transfer point between RA and CTD.

What could happen - and has happened in the past - is for striking CTD workers to set up picket lines outside
of Regional Rail employee facilities - to try and disrupt service. Entities have gone into court in the past in the
outer four counties to get an order issued to prevent any problems. Let's hope that any of this does not occur...

The tentative contract includes a 3% wage increase each year, and a pandemic hazard payment of $1 per each hour worked between March 15, 2020 and March 15, 2021 of up to $2,200 per worker.

"We are pleased to reach an agreement with union leadership on a contract that is fair to our employees and financially responsible for SEPTA," SEPTA Board Chairman Pasquale T. Deon Sr. said in an emailed statement. "I look forward to the SEPTA Board's vote on the contract at its next meeting."

AC: The tentative agreement between TWU Local 234 and SEPTA is still NOT a fully done deal until:
1-A majority of Local 234 membership votes to approve the contract settlement with SEPTA
2-The SEPTA Board votes to approve the new contract with Local 234 representing CTD workers.

In the past there have been instances of either the TWU union rank/file turning down a proposed contract
or the SEPTA Board voting down a settlement viewed to be "too generous" to the Union.

In this instance knowing that SEPTA is on very precarious financial ground both parties will likely approve
the settlement reached for a two-year contract into 2023...MACTRAXX

Everyone - I decided to re-activate this topic instead of posting a new one for basically the same subject...
The two-year contract between SEPTA and TWU Local 234 expires at 12:01 AM on Wednesday November 1...

Will there be a SEPTA CTD Strike this time around in 2023?
The five days ahead (from this post) may be interesting for SEPTA CTD riders...MACTRAXX

Seems like SEPTA reached a deal with TWU Local 234

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- SEPTA reached a tentative agreement with the Transport Workers Union on Friday to avert a strike.

"As I told you guys before, we wanted to lock in to try to reach a tentative agreement without striking, we did that today," said TWU Local 234 President Brian Pollitt during a press conference.

ZS: Good news for SEPTA CTD riders that a tentative agreement has been reached…
This is reported to be a ONE YEAR contract taking account to SEPTA’s finances in
the years ahead by TWU 234 and SEPTA management…

Will a possible strike be the same predicament next year? MACTRAXX
