Senate Unanimously Approves Making Daylight Savings Time Permanent

The best thing that can be done is eliminate timezones entirely and go to UTC as the standard time of the world.

It was passed in the Senate, but as far as I know was never acted on by the House. If not, it's a dead issue as of the new session of Congress that started this week.

Senate will have to pass full process again. House as well

I am not counting on any productive work the next two years.

Yes, Congress does a reset at the start of each numbered Congress. All of its bills and resolutions are stopped, whatever the progress on them might have been.

But a Congressmember can reintroduce a bill in subsequent numbered Congresses, as many times as he/she wants.

I've found several bills on this subject, either for making permanent daylight savings time nationwide, or else to allow states to choose permanent DST, the way that they can choose permanent standard time.

The only parts of the US that do not have Daylight Saving Time are Hawaii, most of Arizona, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, and American Samoa.

Looking at a statista chart dated March 2023, most of the world does not observe daylight time. It is pretty much confined to most of the USA, Most of Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Egypt, Argentina, Paraguay, 1/3 of Australia, most of Europe, most of Scandinavia and New Zealand.

Sometimes the best course is to just leave it alone! The present DST system works okay.
