As we enter 2021, it is apparent that not much has changed. The only service to show improvement in both measured categories was the "Pennsylvanian", and even this level is substantially below what was posted in previous years.

It is significant that the best performing service "City of New Orleans" has more than 2' padding in each scheduled direction. One can only wonder to what level the performance scores would sink to if the padding was removed or even reduced in this and other schedules.

Another interesting thing is the different performance level by direction of some services such as the BUF Corridor and the "Pennsylvanian".

The OT performance at selected intermediate stations on the DET, STL, and BUF Corridors ranged from 2 to 10, hardly encouraging.

Delay causes for delays of 30" or more for the monitored services as reported by Amtrak on the "Alerts" sites for this period were:

Host Carrier = 98 Amtrak Equipment = 55 3rd Party = 11 Weather = 3 Amtrak Holds = 7 N.O.S. = 97

I shudder to think what extrapolation of these to the entire system would look like.

Stay safe, y'all.
