Heritage Ideas

Remember when NEC trains were named? They commemorated the trains of the NH, PRR, NYC and if reinstated, could keep Amtrak's heritage alive after this year. (Curiously, long-distance trains have names!!) The Brits name their locomotives; how about something similiar for the NEC electrics? Long dista...

D&H Doodlebug??

 by JKTRR ¦  Tue Mar 29, 2011 1:28 pm ¦  Forum: Delaware & Hudson ¦  Topic: D&H Doodlebug?? ¦  Replies: 2 ¦  Views: 5299

Rumors continue to float about the D&H rostering a "Doodlebug" type car, for use on an unknown short branch line. My research had not indicated one/any (ie: no photo, roster position, etc.) within any of my books.

Anyone have any information on this unique piece of equipment?

(may have answered my own Q): July 2002 LIRR (Weekend Chief) calendar page was a Norman Kohl 1961 view showing F-M #1501 and three cars westbound out of the Glen Street station "passing the new route effected by the building of the Glen Cove by-pass."

Took a trip to Oyster Bay over the weekend; two Q's: * Between Locust Valley and Oyster Bay, on north side of tracks, is stone structure that looks to be ex-station. Was it? * I recall reading in some LIRR resource about a "line relocation" in the Glen Cove area some years ago, that source...

MEC Cabooses

Again, wonder if there was ever published a all-time caboose roster; it could be used to compare against all these replys, to see how many (especially those on the roster "at the end") are left..........It would be especially interesting to learn of their respective heritages!!

MEC passenger cars

To commemorate a 1956 trip on the "State of Maine", I'm painting up an HO car in MEC colors. Research has showed/told of the transition from red window band to "dark" green w/ gold separator stripes. It also appears that not all the smooth-sided cars got the repaint job before le...

With a few scattered examples of ex-MEC cabooses in the Garden State (at least four), wonder if an all-time roster was every created/published. With Athearn and Atlas coming out with HO versions, it would be great to compare for accuracy!!
