Re: FDR Funeral Train at New Rochelle

. . . Though reportedly scheduled to arrive Hyde Park at 8:40 AM, arrival time there was closer to 10 AM. The reporter said the New York Central steam locomotives assigned to forward the train were late in arriving. Maybe this should be in the NYC Forum, but I've always wondered how Central allowed...

If you can get the book "New York Central Lightning Stripes VOl II" By David Sweetland --- be sure it's volume II ---- there are a number of good photos of the passenger commuter trains AND the ferries, and the Weehawken terminal itself, near the end of the service. I don't know if the boo...

A black logo on the cab side? There's no known NH RS-3 scheme that had a black logo on the cab side. I looked through the Atlas online catalog and can't find any New Haven HO RS-3 in any scheme, so for the moment i am somewhat stymied. I can help you with just about anything you want to know about N...

In the 40's and 50's the routing for Hartford - Maybrook was Hartford, Waterbury, Derby and around the wye to the Maybrook Line then common routing to Maybrook. These jobs always worked in both directions at Waterbury and I suspect the trains were much, much shorter east of Waterbury because during...

I do -- it was June 1982

To add additional details to this fascinating item: the division post on the Maybrook line marking the end of the CNE was located slightly less than a mile west of Danbury station. For those who know Danbury it was right near Mallory's --- between Rose Hill Ave. underpass and Lake Ave. underpass. Th...

IIRC, mainline was 4 tracks except: Peekskill to Manitou / Garrison Barrytown / Tivoli Germantown / South of Hudson Hudson / Stottville Stuyvesant / Castleton So if I'm reading you right, there were sections north (RR direction west) of Barrytown with more than 2 mains?

Yes, I clearly remember the delay that wrecked your photo chasing. After one of the lengthy added water stops I wrote about in my above post --- this one at Rhinecliff --- I think we never got up to track speed all the way to Albany. The reason for the slow running was not made clear to the passenge...

Who besides me remembers being on the October 1968 fantrip that operated New York-Niagara Falls and return (one day up, one day back) behind NKP 759? Although the trip had some memorable flaws** too, it's still at the top of my list as the most spectacular such trip I ever experienced. For example: ...

Do you happen to recall exactly when operation of single FL9's was authorized? From what I've seen that was not contemplated when the first units were delivered. Various railroad documents in the late 50s refer to an EDER-5 as a "3500 horsepower locomotive," from which you can conclude tha...

MY wife and I just visited the keys for the first time ever, so I saw some of the visible remnants of the FEC Key West extension that once operated there. We spent our time between Largo and Marathon --- did not to all the way to Key West (in order to avoid college spring breakers and "bikers&q...

I thought that shot of 110 was a fan trip photo too. I also know people who rode it (I didn't even know about it at the time) and I think it was sponsored by the Electric Railroaders Association in 1966 or 1967. November 13, 1966 to be exact. I was on it --- a great trip. There are a number of phot...

Guys, disregard my question in the post above --- I see the answer is in the thread. BTW, a historical item: there once was a station called "Topstone" located (logically enough!) at Topstone Road (west side of the track and south side of the crossing to be exact). It was discontinued in 1...
