Re: CSX Derailment near Amsterdam, NY - 6/27/13

Apparently the eastbound train went past three signals - an advance approach, an approach and a home signal - before colliding with the westbound train. If this is correct then one must why this happened. If this is not correct, and it may not be, then there must be some reason for the collision. Ma...

I also have drawing number 430-S-91710: Erecting Drawing(Oct 19, 1929) And I have drawing number WW-1989043 Location of Apparatus(Feb 19, 1929) which shows everything inside the locomotive carbody. This is a VERY large drawing. Only a blueprint company could copy it. I think it is probably a rare it...

LV also switched the warehouse on Fuhrmann Blvd that later became Freezer Queen. Tracks ran through what is now Small Boat Harbor. LV also had a track into the old American Standard plant near the Thruway. That has been gone for decades.

Otto: I can try to copy the section of the profile sheet that includes the U&D. It will be small and may not be very legible. I will need a mailing address so that I can send it to you. Hugh T. Guillaume

The NYCS profile that I have measures 24"x40". There are no pages. It is one sheet. I cannot scan anything that big on my unit. Maybe there would be a way to make it available through the NYCSHS website. Noel could sell hard copies. I can send it to him if he thinks that is possible. Hugh ...

I have in my collection a large format document the shows the profile of every NYC main line and branch line. The U&D/Catskill Branch is included. I have no idea how to put this onto the internet though. Hugh T. Guillaume

There were two funeral cars. They were both built for the New York Central & Hudson River Railroad at West Albany in 1889. They were No.145 Kensico and No. 146 Woodlawn. Both cars retained their original numbers and names in 1915 when the NYC&HRRR was succeeded by the New York Central Railro...

There was a three-story depot at Hull, PA. Paul Pietrak has a pic. We are not sure exactly where in Hull(aka Conrad) it was located. Hugh T. Guillaume

The Cross Fork Branch left the main line at Cross Fork Jct by means of a switch. The branch went south from there either directly on or immediately adjacent to what is now Cross Fork Road. The B&S r-o-w is several feet below the level of the road that runs in there from the state road. The B&...

There is still some track and a couple bumpers down in the gorge at Niagara Falls. NYC went into the gorge right in the city. Hojack went through Niagara University campus. NYC went down to river in Lewiston where The Silo is now - silo held sand at that time. There is a tunnel in Lewiston on the li...

Please note that in my post I used the term "on this topic" . It is my understanding, which may be incorrect, that the upcoming RPCA event is not open to the general public. By that I mean that, unlike the train shows in Hamburg, you cannot walk up to the door, buy a ticket and walk in. Yo...

RPCA is Railway Passenger Car Alliance. WNYRHS is the host organization for this meeting. My understanding is that the event is not open to the general public, hence there has been no publicity. RPCA is an group of individuals and organizations that own and operate passenger cars in excursion servic...

The r-o-w maps that we copied at the county hall in Belmont indicate that the L&P track was headed in a southerly or westerly direction when it made the connection with the GVCRR at the grade crossing. Also, the culvert which still exists in the hayfield is oriented in a southwesterly direction....

Lackawanna & Pittsburgh Railroad grade between Angelica and Belfast is visible in some places. On the west side of the creek there is an old road next to a farm that is on the r-o-w. Then it follows a line of telephone poles for a while. It went through the golf course and headed for the Genesee...
