Re: Amtrak Florida?

I live in Tampa and Amtrak was suppose to talk to the state of Florida about statewide rail service there. Money talks. No money, no talking. And "no money" certainly epitomizes the Sunshine State these days. So it goes when one mislabels ‘tourism’ as an ‘industry.’ The money is there. It...

Re: Shore Line East speeds

No, because there's no way for the signal system to know whether the train is terminating or continuing. Jim Can't exceptions be made to the signals? I mean they're not like regular traffic lights in your neighborhood. There's a dispatcher who knows what's going on and what that train is going to do.

So what's the exact reason for the slow-down? I assume it has to do with signaling, but i wonder if someone can explain it particularly for someone who doesn't know a thing about signals. If there's a Strop Signal east of the station the train will have to gradually slow down the closer it gets to ...

Is there a speed restriction placed upon SLEs approaching Old Saybrook, because they approach the station exceptionally slow.

Last spring I traveled BOS/WAS/ORL/SRA and return on Acela and Meteor. Unfortunately I had a terrible cold and couldn't get comfortable on the upper in my Roomette. So I spent most of the nights in both directions sitting up and looking out the windows. I found the numerous towns we transited, espe...

I've been on the Silver Meteor many times, last time being 3 weeks ago. I have to say from my experiences that the most interesting scenery is on the Northeast Corridor. Leaving New York (if you're sitting in the right spot), you can see the Empire State building from the moment you exit the North R...

I am on 67 this morning... I guess because of a VRE train issue we have been stuck more than an hour... I would have thought there is more than one track around Loraton VA? Most of the old RF&P is double track AFAIK. The problem is the lack of switches I think. Even if there was a switch where ...

Silver Meteor's Florence, SC-Fayetteville, NC Slow Zone

I've noticed over the past week or so that there have been a few days, including last night, where the northbound Silver Meteor takes an outrageous 3 hours to travel between Florence, SC and Fayetteville, NC when the trip is supposed to take an hour and a half according to the timetable. This would ...

Constitution Liners in Ivy City Yard

I just took a trip on NEC from Washington on Saturday and noticed at least three of CDOT's Constitution Liners. Are these the same cars that were taken to New Orleans earlier in the year and if so, what are they doing back in the northeast? Are they being returned to CT?

Just out of curiosity, how many A1 cafes does Amtrak have? Are they all in use or are there extras in storage somewhere?

I've been noticing these trains have been using the Horizons instead of Amfleet II cafes. Are the cafes in the shops or something?

Than what's the story with the "50 states 50 days" motto I've heard about?

It must be something new they announce now that they are "Northeast Regionals" because I certainly don't remember them doing it at all. In fact, the last time I was up there, I took 93 down from Washington from Bridgeport, and the conductor didn't make a single announcement until New York.

Do we know the schedule of this train over the next 50 days at all?
