- litz do you work all the time or what days do you volunteer? Might wait till the mid to end of Sept. when it is a little cooler. When I come I will have the hat on that is in the above pictures and if not to hot my hickory striped overalls. I would love to ride in the cab but do not want to leave...

Many railroads lock the doors to their locomotives ... it's a lot less to prevent theft, and a lot more to prevent vandalism. Turning on a locomotive is much more complicated than turning the key on a car ... starting up a large diesel powerplant (even with autostart) is not a trivial task; if you d...

I have heard/read (this means find your big grain of salt) that this happens when a multi-use tank car gets steam-cleaned in between loads, and the valves are closed before the temperature stabilizes. When the steam cools and condenses, the resulting pressure differential (which is almost a vacuum) ...

Interesting ... we have the 2705 on the Blue Ridge Scenic, and it looks almost identical inside to that 2709, including the Christmas lights threaded through the luggage rack. You can't see it in the photos, but the ceilings of the cars (at least ours do) have the New York state seal printed on them...

We use these in the arcade industry, mostly on pinball machines ... they are a 3/8" x 2" leveler. So you'd need a 3/8-16 T-nut for each leg, and this gives you a nice solid metal foot under each table leg, adjustable, etc. You can buy these at any arcade supply shop, my favorite is online ...

The two best cars of those with AC are the 105 and 106; these are ex-FEC/ex-BAR/ex-VIA coaches, very nice inside. Best view is probably out of the 549 (an ex-NJC commuter coach). Wandering around the cars is not only allowed, it's encouraged. We have equipment ranging from 1924 to the 1960s. We also...

Make sure you book yourself an open-air ticket; the view out the converted LIRR coaches (2929/2975) cannot be beat -- the windows are all cut out, so it's a wide open panoramic view. (or you can ride in the 697, which is a converted box car ... just remember, the freight doesn't complain about the r...

BAR 110 is also property of the Blue Ridge Scenic RR (I believe, as noted above, it arrived with the 105, which was purchased as a sister car to the already-on-property 106). Here it is in Blue Ridge, not looking all that much better than the picture above : http://terminus.litz.org/rrpics/BAR%20110...

BAR 105, BAR 106, and BAR 114 all are owned by the Blue Ridge Scenic RR (a subsidiary of the Ga Northeastern). 105 and 106 are in regular service (these are fantastic cars, very nice interiors, with a superb smooth/quiet ride), while the 114 has been retired (it was formerly used as a concession car...

We have 2705, 2929, and 2795 on the Blue Ridge Scenic RR. 2705 is still in its original configuration (although we removed 1/2 the seats to make more room for passengers), while 2929 and 2975 were converted to open-air coaches by removing the side windows/seats, and installing bench seats for the pa...
