Re: Amtrak/MARC Service - BWI- Union Station

It may be heresy to mention here, but depending on where you're headed in the DC area, there's also an Express Bus B30 that goes directly to Greenbelt Metro where you can connect with the Green Line and several other buses. Fare is a flat $6, but it boards all the way over at the International Pier ...

To me the big problem of TERMINATING the NEC at Dulles is just that - it would be terminus, and would thus be pulling connecting riders from only one direction. Beyond it, there really wouldn't be much of anywhere to go without generally backtracking, which would discorage through ridership from say...

Yep! Was on the Crescent a couple years ago headed North and couldn't buy a "night cap" on a Sunday night until we crossed over into South Carolina from Georgia.

Baltimore will be adding a pair of Zipcar spots on St. Paul Street right outside of Penn Station in the coming week, as well as other Downtown spots easily reached by free Circulator bus or MTA.

Yes, the day rate is a plus, and usually equals 8 hours of the hourly rate, in the range of $64 to $80 plus some pretty modest taxes. The only wrinkle is that you have to cancel 24 hours in advance with the day rate compared to 3 hours on the hourly rate - usually not a problem. At the day rate, Zip...

Behold! I spent a little time on the Zipcar site, and discovered that access to Zipcars from Amtrak is actually more comprehensive than I thought! Here's a list of Amtrak Stations that host Zipcars on or adjacent to the premises: Durham, NH Emeryville, CA Metropark, NJ Princeton Jct, NJ Philadelphia...

Your response underlines the ideological basis of ZipCar's business model. Indeed, patronage for carsharing seems to be centered on a political agenda more than a practical and rational pattern of use. It goes well beyond even the fringes of environmentalism, as the business model of ZipCar apparen...

I've been a Zipcar memeber for the past 20 months, and must say that I'm overall pleased with the service. The freedom from many of the hassles of car ownership and even car rentals have been very well addressed by Zipcar. While their overall main focus market is college campuses, they are also prev...

I guess they also might not have turned it, but it could have headed out double headed, and a runaround move done at Huntingdon with the coach seats rotated around with the consist operated in reverse. Just a possibility.

You and the other person are on the same reservation? I once made added in a Sleeper Upgrade after my friend and I decided not to coach back from Chicago. Since her reservation was different than mine, my ticket read "3001/13" while hers simply read "SUPERLINER ROOMETTE" All othe...

Given that the LD Car Attendants and Conductors on busier trains usually carry a specifically printed pad with the car seating layout in which they write the code of the station to which each person in an assigned seat is travelling, I hardly think this is simply a matter of a few "rogue Conduc...

I travelled from Chicago to Pittsburgh by sleeper in the Fall of 2006. That day, a landslide had occurred west of Pittsburgh blocking access to the traditional routing. We diverted apparently onto the old main and then onto the south side of the river, being taken to McConnellsville and then bussed ...

Trains make a lot more stops than planes, so picking a seat at booking will cause trains to "sell out" faster with Amtrak losing revenue in the process. To use a simplified example, you have two seats on your train, A and B. Passenger 1 books a trip from Washington to Baltimore and chooses...
