Re: #4 Red Line Cars 1900-2151

I wonder if there is a provision for another, established railcar manufacturer to buy out the contract: Assume all assets and liabilities; finish this order and other properties' orders, and then solicit new business. This of course would require CRRC to want to exit, but given the Buy America act, ...

Here's what METRA is up to. Perhaps an innovative solution for the Fairmount Line?

It seems to me the right thing to do at this time is for MassDOT to put out a procurement solicitation for another, established car builder to take over the entire contract -- building, manufacturing, warranty, etc. -- essentially buying out CRRC. That investment today in time and money will pay off...

There's a plan to replace the two draws, add a third, and reconnect tracks 11 and 12.

Rode the redline for the first time in about a year the other day. Took about an hour from South Station to Braintree. With some of the slow zones it seems the operators just speed and and brake and repeat instead of staying at a slow constant speed. Sat over one of the truck on the non-cab end and...

NETransit lists seven as of August 2, 2023: 1701, 1704, 1705, 1706, 1714, 1722, 1724 There are currently ten new Rotem 1800s in service (of 33 on order), which are slowly displacing some 1700s north. When South Coast Rail starts up later this year I expect we'll see a slowdown in this process, as mo...

Did they ever fix the traffic light timing at the Silver Line portal at 'D' St. so the dual modes don't get hung up by cars blocking the intersection? With the Sumner Tunnel closure the Silver Line won't attract riders as much with continuing delays here and in the Ted tunnel. Nope. No signal prior...

This morning a colleague and I arrived at North Station at 5:45am, and headed down to the GL platform for an inbound train to Park Street. The first thing I noticed was there were no trains listed on the status board (i.e. "Heath Street -- 3 minutes"). So I looked at mbta.com and saw an al...

NETransit is showing 1828-1829, and 847-848 are now active on the south side.

Related, yesterday I saw a seven-car set of bilevels at South Station (with cab car 1826). This is the first seven-car set I've seen since the pandemic cut-backs.

Signal issues near Wilmington this morning on the Lowell Line. Everything was 35-45 minutes later, including 300, 302, and 304. Plus, the real-time information system was not working on the platforms. Stefan's tracker showed some of the trains, but 302 in particular was not visible.

The new contractor can subcontract with CRRC for the outstanding shells yet to be manufactured/delivered from C...
