Nice find!! A lot of rare stuff, seeing a steamer in the float yard, going down the East Leg at Pond, the one that got me was watching it descend off of the Mainline Cutoff into Harold. I had to stop there, but that was great! Thanks for posting...

Nicely done! Mineola - The Hole is new to me, always amazing as to what they used to do with the freight here. Thanks for posting!
Great job as always, amazing on how you're able to get more things on the Whitestone Branch after all of this time. Thanks for your efforts!
25ish. Great guy, and the protect engineer in the morning who was normally very polite would heap abuse on him, often ragging on his tie. Both very funny, very experienced and I was lucky to have worked with them.
It's been a long time since I've seen it, but we used to get MU's from MN off of the Hellgate. They would pull into Harold at a certain spot, and the car inspectors standing by with a road foreman would spring into modifying the shoes, and then they would make a move to Shea yard. At the time some c...
Excellent job as always - season's greetings!
C Secondary was the track that went from Bliss to LIC on the Lower Montauk. Just west of where Bliss stands is where the Montauk Cut-off secondary trails into Bliss, and farther down is the Dutch Kills drawbridge. So from Bliss you could use the C Secondary to get to LIC, or to get to Harold and/or ...
That was one of the last of the Bernie Ente trips, and if it's the one I'm thinking off, it was absolutely a brutally hot day in the early '2000's. Either Forgotten NY or OldNYC had a bunch of pictures of that trip, and that would give you the date.
Not sure when, but there was a UPS facility somewhere around LIC that fueled a handful of riders on the Lower Montauk, including a few that got on at intermediate stops. Then it was closed or moved to elsewhere and it was a just a scant few commuters and deadheading employees at the time of the serv...
Quogue and Mill Neck petitioned to have theirs removed, this way Quogue wouldn't have to send the local cop every time a train pulled in. For Southampton LIU it was a rude surprise and they howled when they found out. Usually it was low ridership but during the beginning of the semester, holidays, T...
Definitely a legit concern, but have no idea about that. Not sure if they would attempt to pass over the rail. I remember a few years when I was a kid from bad infestations in CT, when it was completely clear outside and yet you heard a pronounced light rain, it was the caterpillars crapping on the ...
Great shot that last pic. Lots of changes coming to that area soon, the trackage above the shanty was old E Yard. At some point soon, they'll build a track from both the West Lay-up and East Lay-up into old E yard and continue into Platform C. The Atlantic Branch should stay the same, that's 1 Atlan...
EdwardHand is correct, and last use was by signal for battery storage. Last used glass batteries were in there, and no one wanted to deal with cleaning them up. Maintainer trainees were threatened to the task if the lunch order was bungled, etc.

I'm guessing they were Gypsy Moth infestations, they used to be an issue but I didn't know they were a nuisance a...
