Re: Where were you on December 22nd 1985?

Continuing the theme of the Washington St El thread, where were you on December 22nd 1987 when the MBTA E line through Jamaica Plain was closed? I'll kick things off -- I was a tiny child, living in England... completely unaware of Boston or the T, and possibly even trains. Do you mean Dec 22nd 198...

Re: MBTA Website Update

I like how the alert says, B line disabled train @ Packard Corner. If they did not get rid of the A line spur (Thanks a lot Hamilton Reality) a dead train could get shoved in there and clear the line.

That looks pretty good, I like the Type 7's in Boston who are built by this company. I like this for the type 9 :)

Re: atlanta streetcar wins funding

The car at Shore Line Trolley Museum, Branford, CT: Georgia Power Co. #948 I can't find a link to any Atlanta car at Seashore, but it's probably there somewhere. The Atlanta car is of the same series as 948 at Branford, but the # is unkown. The car had a 2nd and 3rd life. It served in Korea for a w...

Re: Seashore Trolley Museum Discussion

Im headed up to STM in the AM. Looking forward to it!! Never saw you there. Anyway, we did a little over 400 on Saturday and we did ok for a really rainy dreary day on Sunday. Now we only have 2.5 weeks left of the year, the holiday is the best time for a gift to the museum :) Annual Fund to help r...

Re: The Middlesex & Boston Street Railway Company

The truck is attached from those two side metal sills. Single truck cars had no KING PIN like double truck cars had. Another connection would be to the platforms from those angle bars. All bolted into the wooden body. A 1901 car such as 41 was about 99.8 % wood, very little metal used on the actual ...

Re: atlanta streetcar wins funding

This is exciting news. Two New England trolley museums have old 1920's streetcar/trolleys.

Seashore Trolley Musuem has a body and Brandford Trolley Museum has a complete car. Both cars are the same vintage.

Re: The Middlesex & Boston Street Railway Company

Thanks, but I'm asking how a truck on a single-truck car is generally affixed. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4030/4665922055_a5395b9af9_m.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.flickr.com/photos/milantram/page79/&usg=__LYJZZp5vIHZq1eGll_8fqedsTL0=&h=159&w=240&sz=27&hl=en&star...

Minuteman Bike trail & Arlington, MA

I was told that Arlington wants to narrow Mass ave from two auto lanes to one, bump out sidewalks corner, add bike lanes. This would really slow down the already long and hard working 77 bus from Harvard Sq to Arlington Heights. There is a bike path (Minuteman Bike Path) that just about runs beside ...

Re: The Middlesex & Boston Street Railway Company

How is a truck such as on 41 affixed to the car's body, Doug ? Is it as easy as having bolts on four corners ? The old Birney truck (not correct for a 1901 built car) was attached by the museum back in the 70's. It was attached by using four large pieces of wood bolted at the four corners and on th...

Re: Seashore Trolley Museum Discussion

We have the actual book at Seashore, I was hoping to find it on-line so I would not have to bother checking the book out of Seashore to make copies of what I'm looking for. I have not checked with them to see if they have anything, I am assuming that years ago the MBTA or MTA donated their collectio...

Re: The Middlesex & Boston Street Railway Company

Car 41 is now on four horses and hopefully will straighten herself out. The Birney truck has been removed and will most likely go to Birney 615 (Portland, ME)
