Re: Weekend dual modes on the Port Jeff branch

Looks like the weekend DMs are going away with the next timetable change, most likely to free up diesels for Montauk service. They'll be replaced by scoots with normal connection times at Huntington.

Re: MTA LIRR Double Track Project - Ronkonkoma to Farmingdal

Those reduced aspect signals look cheap and useless. Wrong on so many levels (lunar used for cab signals, no speed info, red on top, etc) and adds another system to memorize. At least with regular color lights installed in the last decade they are very close to NORAC/Amtrak rules. That said, many th...

Re: Weekend dual modes on the Port Jeff branch

This weekend, with bridgeplates in effect between Penn and Jamaica, there were alerts sent out that the DMs would bypass local stops and connections would be made via electric trains stopping there instead.

Why would this be done? Do the C3s not line up properly with the bridgeplates?

Weekend dual modes on the Port Jeff branch

I don't remember seeing this before, looks like 2 round trips on weekends from Port Jeff have been turned into DM trips to Penn. Trains 6607 and 6609 (8:44am and 10:13am) from Port Jeff now make all stops to Huntington, wait there for about 10 minutes, then proceed to Penn with the normal weekend st...

Re: MTA LIRR Double Track Project - Ronkonkoma to Farmingdal

Nice pics, lets hope those pedestals and/or the replacements stay as position lights, but I am not holding my breath

Re: MTA LIRR Double Track Project - Ronkonkoma to Farmingdal

Are the dwarves being installed of the position light type or the color light type?

That picture answers your question. The bumping block on the old cutoff is right past that WMX garbage car. Other half still runs all the way to LIC passenger yard.
Didnt even realize the bumper was there while on the bus, thanks!

(6)602 was moved up almost an hour and 20 mins? So nothing replaces the 2am run from Jamaica?

Re: Lower Montauk Division Discussion

Exactly which parts of the Lower Montauk and Cutoff are out of service? I spotted these freight cars a few minutes ago, taken from an express bus on the LIE just east of thr midtown tunnel

Re: New Schedules from Feb 26, 2018

When i used to ride 609, it would have standees with only 4 cars. At one point it was 7 cars, then cut to 6 sometime around 5 years ago. I guess it was further cut to 5 cars after I stopped using the RR

Re: New grade crossing paint @wellwood

There was a press release today, this may be expanded to other crossings. Relevant section from the press release (listed LIRR grade crossings only): Grade crossings along Metro-North Railroad and the Long Island Rail Road service areas will see about $5 million in safety upgrades thanks to some fed...

I think there are a couple of other Babylon trains that do. An early morning eastbound and 4am or something westbound.

It's probably restoring the 1-something am jamaica to OB and 7:20 OB to jamaica runs.

2014/2015 Service Enhancements

Saw this on the MTA site today: West Hempstead weekend service restored in November, running every 2 hours 10 weeks of extra Montauk weekend service thru Thanksgiving this year, and year round Babylon-Patchogue hourly service starting September 2015 2 weekend Oyster Bay trains added (restored?) in S...
