I heard they were using NY&A GP 38's to run snow patrols to clear the Rails.

In my Post I DID say the Railroad shut down electric service in 77. As they probably will do tonight. Then they will run diesel equipment up and down the branches to clear the snow, just like they did in 77. Only now, they have DM engines they can put Ice scraping third rail shoes on to further clea...

If you see an MP-15 towing a DM or DE, its one of two things. A roustabout taking an Engine Back to the shops, or a Change of Engines.

The LAST car on the LEFT is a 65 or later impala. The second car from the right could be a 58 or 59.

the red chevy Impala in the 2nd picture is at least a 65 model. The red car to the left of the Black studebaker. That makes the 2nd Picture at least 1965. Impalas did not look like that till at least 1965. So the two pictures are from different years.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Impala&q...

The second picture looks like the middle 60's Based on the autos in it, also it looks like they are starting to put in the temporary high platforms. You can see the new red temporary high platforms going in, for the M-1's which started arriving in 1968. With the crane in the background its possible ...

Only worked them a few times, all I can add is they had they pulled out of the stations faster then any other Engines the LIRR ever had.

Was friends with Greg, worked with him many times, have been to his house. Went out after work with him and the crew several times. We kind of lost touch since I moved to Illinois. I did not read the article, since I am not a newsday subscriber. He had a great job, he was promoted to Road foreman, a...

a few years ago there was a two hour gap between the 140 babylon train, and the next one. I forget the exact time of the next one. The 140 was usually packed with drunks, and was known as the vomit comet. The next one was the stragglers and also became known as the vomit Comet, but it was not as cro...

As stated before, alcohol is usually just a problem on St Patricks Day, New Years eve, and friday and saturday nights with young adults going to and from the City. In the friday and saturday night situations, for some reason the Babylon Branch always seemed the worst. In most cases when the kids wer...

I never drive to Chicago from harvard. Its a nightmare once you get to O'haire on 90.The traffic is worse than NY. If Im going to Chicago, to go to a Cubs Game, or the RR retirement Board, I take the train. I live on the last stop On the union Pacific North-west line. In LIRR terms think of it as Sp...

What is happening in that picture, is the DD-1 just uncoupled from a train from Penn To Jamaica, and either the steam Engine, or Fairbanks-Morse Engine ( Grey engine in front and to the left of the steam engine) is about to back down to the train left in the high side of the station. It will then co...
