Re: M9 and M9A Procurement & Acceptance

The new TZ bridge was built faster. And the A320neo was built slower (10 years) even though a lot of it was copy/paste from an existing design. Above all else, the Commuters deserve a safe railcar that will function as intended and the price of rushing to chase a deadline, well known and written in...

The only way the clock would reduce cost is if you believe that the crews were fabricating the arrival times on their deadheads. All I can say is that my firsthand experience is that biometrics eliminate most opportunities for timecard fraud, and paper timesheets facilitate a lot of fraud nobody li...

Eolesen, just to point out why crews are taking this negatively, look at the factors it changess. It wont save cost, crews will deadhead and claim every second rather than going straight home and being less inclined to claim a few minutes here and there (not saying people won't claim OT on a ghost d...

Right now the roster is being inflated to compensate for East Side Access service changes and the large wave of retirement that will be in full swing around completion time. This has to be done now otherwise we'll be getting the NJT special. The surplus in the roster gets used to compensate dor PTC...

Wholeheartedly agree that NYPost's salary shaming is...gross (to put it lightly), but to deny LIRR's productivity problem (which, to be sure, goes far beyond this issue of overtime) is also a bit off. OT is supposed to be used to limit headcount, right? How does that mesh, then, with a railroad who...

Hopefully the MTA gets money to fully electrify the yard. I'd hate to think of having all of those Diesel fumes bouncing back down on everyone.

Somewhere else in the world, an Executive Board gets a $400,000 landing pad while their company circles the drain and their top earner is praying they can get their 2% raise that they learned to ask for in business school. I get why people are mad, but which one of these is really whats wrong with US?

Note carefully that the sign actually says "14 Unit". This is slightly different to 14 MU, this is your stopping point if you have a 12 Coach DE/DM train since it will be 12, 85ft Coaches and 2 75ft DM for a total of 12 units.

Why is this, for "safety"? Speed control should only kick in once the engineer fails to meet a speed limit after a certain amount of time, correct? No, that's completely wrong as far as the LIRR and in my observation any Commuter Speed control package in the US, the Cab Signal will change...

The evidence of a pad is when you compare the times in the opposite direction. As you note, times from Secaucus to NYP are consistently 13 to 15 minutes. Yet times from NYP to Secaucus are either 9 or 10 minutes. The same thing happens at the other end of the line. Schedule time from Hamilton to Tr...

What is the official definition of "arrived" ? Lets use Penn Station as an example Is it when the train passes an arbitrary marker in the East River tunnel? Is it when the train pulls into the platform -- but is still moving? The definition I use is that the train has stopped at a platfor...

I just read the opening paragraph of the report and found no mention that ignoring a dark signal is a violation of the rule stating that a dark signal is to be regarded as displaying the most restrictive indication possible on that signal--if that rule had been observed, the train would have been p...

Why shouldn't we strive for perfection? The Japanese time their trains down to the second. When we have Japanese level networking, Japanese level budgeting, Japanese level passenger cooperation and Japanese level labour abuses we can dream of that. Outside of Tokyo and the high priority Shinkansen ...
