CMO Chuck Turner considered the GP-9s (300, 301) and the GP-18s (302-305) to be the same and eventually had the GP-18s de-rated to be even more similar to the GP-9s Reviving an old topic here, but found this very interesting. Any idea what year the GP18's were de-rated? This sounds unlikely. 50 Hor...

Couldn't they drop leaflets giving the bat's 30 days warning that the chain saw gangs are coming?
How is the final phase of the removal going? I know the iron components of the bridge are gone. How about the rest of the removal?
NS ran a 25K on Sunday or Monday. Mechanicville to Chicago 47Th street. Some Ayer's. Mostly loads and was all JB Hunt and EMP's.
Not sure if this will be regular or just what the story is. NS also ran a 23K and an I3K the same day.
Still, the traffic is here. Some days there are 3 - 310 variations.
I am sure that these trains will run on the Youngtown line for now. My statement was speculation/thinking out loud given that NS previously found the process excessively time consuming. While the Youngstown Line has very little traffic, the NKP is seeing increases. Will this be cause to revisit the ...
From a trusted source- the Tier has 2 new train symbols. NS 14Z Conway (OD 3 am/depart 5 am) - Buffalo (depart 7:45 pm) - Elmira - Binghamton (New Train) I wonder how NS will route these in the long run. Trains coming up the Youngstown line must head west on the NKP at Ashtabula with a "run ar...
NS had one other option. Sell or close the line vs. building the bridge. Actually, there is much to agree with in your post. I don't think any railroad is doing a good job at marketing. The last "innovation" from an equipment standpoint was the stack car. This was developed by the SP as a ...
From 1976 to 1998 Conrail operated both of those lines and still found some degree of traffic to run via this line. Yeah mostly at gunpoint after 1980. In 1981 they shut down the Meadville line and ran one train each way Buffalo-Croxton until the summer of 1982 when the state of New York took them ...

Foamers often claim CP or NYSW would have been a better owner of the Tier than NS or CR. I don't think CP or NYSW would have generated any more traffic than is there now, and the line likely would have been put on the chopping block by EHH when he was running CP. NS has the advantage of better conn...
You're 100% right about everything. I just listened to their fourth quarter earnings call and was somewhat shocked to hear some things they said. For one thing, they implied multiple times that CSX is not their competitor. This means that CSX can screw up all they want and raise rates all they want...
