Amtrak's cost to operate over the freight railroads was $142 million in 2017 as noted on this link, https://media.amtrak.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/CY2017-Report-Card-%E2%80%93-FAQ-%E2%80%93-Route-Details.pdf If you divide $142 million by 28 million train miles (LD + state routes only in 2023) y...

I want to "connect the dots" here, because of some of the language on the various projects: Fredrick Douglass Tunnel Project: Replace B&P and raise track speed to 100 MPH, lay groundwork for 4 tunnels while only doing 2. Baltimore Penn Station Redevelopment: "Move" station t...

Interesting to see this being funded by the FRA Federal-State Partnership for Intercity Passenger Rail Program, considering that most of this project is to allow Metro-North to access Penn Station. MN usually dips their bucket in the FTA's well.

Wow. $72 million just for "Project Development and Final Design" work for 3.3 miles of track improvements on the New Haven Line. Seems like a lot.

Construction costs will be funded in a future grant.

Here's a link to USPS topographic map for South Norwalk from 1943 where you can clearly see the line all the way to its end point near Wilson Avenue. Interesting to see that it was two tracks at the time and had many sidings. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/e36hp5q4oca0h8ag7qnwp/CT_Norwalk-South_3309...
