Can anyone elaborate as to why the open bay at Urban Ave is to north of the current No1 track? Yet they’re clearing the ROW south of No2 track in that area. Will the bridge span be repositioned come September for a few hours over night? Or at a later date closer to the start of service. It appears ...

While double-tracking of the whole stretch from Great Neck to Port Washington is a complicated thing, timetabling and operations could be a lot more flexible with an interlocked loop from out of Plandome Station to Port Washington. This could begin after turning east north of Plandome and incorporat...

From my (European, clockface schedule influenced) POV: To provide capacity for a regular 1 tph (60 min interval clockface schedule) service on the East End of the Montauk Branch in both directions, the minimum infrastructure required would be - a second side platform at Patchogue, better including a...

I have been hearing about the Port Jefferson electrification for close to 40 years. In this MTA LIRR video dated 2/6/19, 56 seconds into video, if we are to believe the MTA LIRR they are moving forward "to begin Central Branch and Port Jefferson Electrification" planning and scope are und...

Twenty million dollars to study the feasibility of moving the single car station used by fifteen people twice a day. Hello everybody, a few weeks ago I came up with an updated listing for the M9 and M9A procurement contracts taken from LIRR Board Materials. I mentioned the M9A contract has a provision for 30 'LIRR Option Coaches' - the purpose of which was discussed in this thread thereafter. [...] 3. The M9A proc...

Budd and Dutch, thank you both for pointing out again and so clearly the MoE/shop aspect. I was aware that coupling the 'S' car in between the A and B with the drawbar connection etc. is not something that is done in 5 minutes. I supposed that with this done though, the fixed 3 car configuration cou...

Do you know facts that preclude the potential LIRR M9A 'S' or 'C' cars from being specified, built and delivered with the required drawbar/reception, air hoses, electric jumpers etc, or was the 'not possible' still related to what is known from the M8?

4 car platforms were never dangerous. During high ridership periods with large crowds, under-dimensioned platforms are always dangerous because of the lack of standing room for waiting passengers and the imminent danger that someone is pushed onto the tracks. Crowds like this are frequent and espec...
