It has been too long.. I remember the second track iron work with all track and cross ties removed. However what is the mostly likely failure points of the present 1 track ?. Are the columns OK or not ? Are both tracks iron works on the same column supports ? Can Amtrak replace the ironwork girders ...

How about Toledo = WASH - Lorton - Sanford. Could combine at Lorton except loads over AutoTrain limit ?

My top 10 will be generalized. Just for the eastern routes. This of course with enough rolling stock to operate all demand and some left over for rush time extra trains. 1. BOS - NYP inland route including all bridges replacement, Harold CP, and East river tunnel bores. 2. The whole Gateway project ...

The NEC is not going to get smoother until Amtrak can do major undercutting of the tracks. There is a larger amount dedicated to that function in the new proposed budget. I can imagine that the big reduction in scheduled service is going to allow some daytime undercutting without completely shutting...

Right now Amtrak has two locations suffering from crew shortage due to covid19. That is the CAL Z west of Denver and Florence. The FRA has issued a proposal to allow non qualified Engineers to operate over some routes with some use of pilots. With operative PTC they can be rapidly sent out on their ...

You cannot schedule too many trains one way due to capacity problems at NYP. Tracks 5 -14 means only 10 trains can stack up at NYP at one time. That means you send 5 trains west and fill them with the next 5. The other east bound tracks will empty thru the East river bores. Then as soon as the west ...

I believe that the US government should declare aa national emergency for essential workers. That includes RR engineers. For the engineers that have retired require them to return to work especially Amtrak engineers that have recovered. Let the RR retirement board requirements be dammed! There is al...

How can baggage cars be used when there is no HVAC installed ? Is there even any provision for units to be installed in these cars ?

The US may be successful in extending out the pandemic over 18 months as the experts want. If that happens I cannot see how Amtrak will survive ? The airlines certainly cannot. They will all be in bankruptcy by July 31 at the latest. No matter how the pandemic goes it will not be contained before fa...

From several different over head views it appears that at one time the tracks went further. The road appears paved over or maybe track removed and then paved over ? Any chance rails paved over or removed ?

It is generally accepted that riding backwards has a slight higher survival rate in a crash. That of course does not include those non survival crashes.

Springfield: All freight trains will no longer block grade crossings. I am unsure if passenger trains will still use the old route ? At least less delays for passenger trains if they use the old single track line. BTW at one time it was 2 tracks . Often wondered why not restore the second track ?

If you go to freight crews I expect crew costs will be much higher. Probably twice as much on routes that are now covered by one crew would be 2 or more freight crews. That especially when you change RRs. Imagine the Michigan trains Freight RR to Detroit, back to NS who would have to hire more crew ...

Any one know if Amtrak has closed one of the North river bores for extended work during this cut back of trains serving NYP. That would depend on NJT having cut back enough ?

Image is the lowest of priorities now. We have to lobby congress to keep present Amtrak operating. The LD route demographics have many oldsters riding. That group is most likely to have fatal complications from Corona19, If the concern does not abate for older persons there will not be much traffic ...
