Re: Request For Expression Interest for Lease of Passenger Car Coach

Perhaps the LIRR is seriously considering piggybacking on the ConnDOT Adessia order and wants to evaluate the overall merits of bilevel vs single level cars one last time before making a decision. MTA announced suspension of all capital funding procurement, ADA projects is probably the only excepti...

It wouldn’t surprise me that the M8s being rolled out on SLE only finally happened (after how many years of delays) due to the 3 year lease extension on the MBBs coming to an end and they didn’t want to get caught off guard like they did in late 2017/early 2018 when ConnDOT was scrambling for anyth...

The viaduct was rehabilitated in the 1990s. It was not replaced. With few exceptions, the underlying structure is well over 100 years old. https://www.google.com/maps/@40.8034613,-73.9400531,3a,88.3y,318.35h,104.53t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sEy8swpvQojR7eF6qoXCRfQ!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.go...

How short sighted, the PTC box couldnt be made to fit in the old ATC space on the left.

This is not the correct thread but more about these dual modes. I cannot see Amtrak ordering Battery - Diesel locos to power the west side trains. The ALC-42E has a better chance of proving reliability. What Amtrak probably needs is to add CAT from the present end of the wEST side tunnel to the MNR...

No progress still in Jan 2024, from the July 2023 post, what happened? Contractor disbarred? It should be in public records at some govt meeting/hearing. A total of ONE cat tower was moved out the way, as seen in pics above, at some point, but dozens more to go. "Force Account" politics? S...

Manual doors. So do the Mafersas have a door light or not? SLE west was removed because of crew change politics I think. Covid was a PR excuse. The fact that SLEs loiter WEST of stamford for 30 mins, and then sit another 20 minutes on track 2, before boarding, at the peak of rush hour. SLE is a cap...

Another point about AC phase breaks. The gap has to wide enough for dual pan electric locos and EMUs that can be supplied from more than one pan is not possible. Seems like I remember that Amtrak had a train that stalled at a phase break on a bridge. Never heard reason if the phase break was too lo...

I believe it signifies a change in voltage. On board, there is a temporary power drop... more noticeable on Amtrak since there's just one pantograph, vs several on the M-8s. AEM7s, HEP (fans, 120v convenience outlets) goes out, on every last phase gap. A strong breeze can make the wire bounce and H...

I'm sure we'll know more later on, but they do look suspiciously close to Bombardier M7 shells, so I have to wonder if they are mostly based off that from the rendering. Alstom==Bombardier, M7 blueprints. Does anyone know if Kawasaki M8s and M9s share ANY parts, windows, door motors, PA/CIS electro...

Wasn't the Park Avenue Viaduct completely replaced in the 1990s? This project is waste.

Actually the operator is given a fixed amount of time to respond to a reduced speed command. That beeping sound you hear coming from the cab is the over speed alarm. If operator exceeds that fixed time the train will come to a halt. Service brake will cancel the alarm allowing the operator to slow ...

It is important to remember, Automatic Train Operation is a 100 percent train board function. Wayside simply enforces the safe spacing of trains by transmitting the appropriate speed command or no speed command. From what I read DC ATO has "approach" hint given to the train, manual just c...
