Re: Westbury Wreck 02/26/2019

Everyone: The MTA website is reporting that the 6:36 PM westbound train from Ronkonkoma (#2065) struck a truck on the School Street Crossing in Westbury and that service east of Mineola is suspended. From looking at a current Ronkonkoma Branch timetable about 7:15 PM is when it happened. http://www...

Hearing reports of car vs train, at least two cars derailed involved and at least 2 DOA's. Looks like one train collided with the platform as well. Prayers for all involved. Owch. Isn’t this the mainline that is scheduled to have all the railroad crossings closed? The project can’t come soon enough...

Incidentally, I think that the start of the new Norfolk/NPN schedule on March 4th (a week from now) means that Acca is "done" along with whatever else CSX and NS had demanded before another train could go south of Richmond. https://augustafreepress.com/virginia-announces-additional-amtrak...

Noticed when checking mta website that there was a police incident and ems at Forest Hills with trains bypassing westbound Kew Gardens, Forest Hills and Woodside stations and delays on other routes. Any idea what happened? Forest Hills seems to be a troublespot with incidents frequently happening. M...

Solari boards are fun, but they are fun because they have hundreds of moving parts. LED boards are simpler, should last longer, and, as a bonus, are much more flexible. In Oslo Sentralstasjon, busier than almost any station in the United States, they have an enormous LED board. Singapore is the 18t...

No clue. All I know is that Track 18 is scheduled for work at Penn Station as per news media.

The system is so large with projects going on and some areas also seem like construction work is going on but have looked the same for years so looks can be deceiving.

Some glowing reviews of the subways here have me wondering how many of you ride it multiple times a day or even live in NYC. Byford's CBTC plan will cost $19B. ESA is YEARS behind schedule already. The 7 CBTC took nearly 8 years to complete. 8 years of regular service disruptions (or no service at ...

There will be enough trains scheduled for people to get to work on time to Amazon and the infrastructure will be able to handle it. Executives will be using commercial and private jets, helicopters and vehicles. I doubt they will use much mass transit. Sure, mass transit is never perfect but I think...

The L line is only a temporary shutdown. There are loads of subway lines to Manhattan which have been increased over time and more on the way such as the East side access project. CBTC and additional cars will help increase frequency and put more cars on the 7 and I guess more cars could be added on...

Transit needs are growing throughout the area. LIC is just one area experiencing growth. Hunterspoint will likely need to expand if demand requires it with larger facilities, more service and larger staircases and walkways for the subway lines. Long Island city station seems to be further away and l...

Don't hold your breath for this one. No laser leaf remover coming anytime soon. Put this on the list with self-driving taxis and flying Crown Victorias. Let us elaborate... I have no doubt the railroad will pay money designing them, reserving them, building them...maybe buying them, but if they eve...

Yeah, this is exactly where Amazons new LIC headquarters are going to be. They mentioned they like to be close to transportation...... Amazon is not moving to where LIRR tracks are. They are moving to Court Square and Anable Basin. LIRR had older trackage on the southern most tracks which had older...

Everyone: With the half-selection of Amazon HQ2 being placed in Long Island City (the other half will be in Crystal City/Arlington,VA) how will it affect the LIRR? Any possibility of adding a station in the vicinity as an add-on to the ESA Project? Any thought about expanding service to and from Hu...

The bridge that is in need of repair is the mainline bridge which has cracked concrete just like the other kew gardens bridge which will be repaired as well. The Montauk line bridge does not have any major structural issues. It is a height restrictive bridge. No additional trackage unlike the Post A...

If it is temporary extensions, then the cracked concrete parts still need to be repaired/replaced but at least they are doing improvements. 4 car platforms were never dangerous. A small few parts of the platform are cracking which is the only part which needed to be addressed. The extensions spread ...
