If you can believe Amtrak.com, out of 11 Southbound trains from Albany-Rensselaer, NY to Penn Station, New York City on 7/10/23, only 5 were cancelled. Nothing went south of Albany today there was regular service between Albany/Boston, Chicago, Niagara Falls and Toronto. Westbound service will cont...

I'm hearing that as 92 reversed into Union Station they passed a stop signal and that is what snarled up MARC.

Not all of those lines could converge at Secaucus Junction. The Greenwood Lakes was too far west, and the old Pascack Valley Line was too far east.

As for travel experiences, NYP is not particularly friendly, given trains and track assignments are often only posted 10 minutes before scheduled time, leading to a frenzy. At HOB, for example you can arrive early, find your track and relax on board until the departure time. Do other NEC stations (...

The Regional Rail reduced service map shows Chestnut Hill West trains terminating at North Philly. Are they actually cutting across to the CHW Line, or are they terminating at the Trenton Line station? Neither. There are no trains on the CHW Line period. Interesting. I wonder why they bothered to d...

Coming back to NJT did they plan on from the beginning to bring the ex-Lackawanna commuter trains into NY Penn or was that something that evolved over time? A New York Times article in 1991 stated, "Railroad old-timers say the idea for the link-up, called the Kearny Connection, originated afte...

I watched Three Days Of The Condor this week and enjoyed the scene in Hoboken Terminal. Our hero catches an Erie-Lackawanna train to Newark with connections to Baltimore & Washington via the Penn Central. The filmmakers were apparently unaware that Amtrak had taken over the PC's Newark-Baltimore...

Several times I have arrived at the station too early, and called Amtrak to change my reservation to an earlier train that's about to depart. Under this new system, I won't be able to do that anymore, without paying double. So that earlier seat is going to be empty. That seems bad for both me and Am...

I woke up at 5 AM to catch train 280. They called at 6 to tell me it was cancelled. I'm now on hold waiting to find out what else they can offer me.

Is the Maple Leaf using dual-modes all the way to Toronto now? I heard 63 come through with 703 in the lead today. They used to change engines at Rensselaer.

So I need to self-report a collosal f-up on my part, total rookie on-train-eating mistake. Last week I'm in NOLA for a week. Of course I'm not going to eat the gas station samwiches on the ride to Memphis, and I've only booked coach (terrible idea given the hangover I was enduring) for the 8 hour r...

Looking at train status, it looks like nearly every eastbound train gets delayed at last 20 additional minutes on the NYF move. And that's in addition to the padding they already put into the schedule.

Someone mentioned the rebuilding o WASH as being needed for speeding up boarding. Remember the lower level AIR only has one escalator . You need it going up for passengers arriving at WASH ad then reverse it to going down for boarding. As VRE also uses the same platform ( Maybe track across from Am...

49 is now 6 hours, 16 minutes late. I wonder if the westbound LD trains will hold for them in Chicago.

On the plus side, Cleveland is finally seeing daytime trains again!
