Yeah, seems like a goof. An update was just posted: T-Alerts - Update: Green Line E branch experiencing delays of about 20 minutes due to disabled train near Magoun Sq. Consider taking the Rt 39 bus for continued service. ...so that would seem to indicate it's along Huntington Ave. (unless the 39 bu...

Something is afoot on the Medford Branch. A T-Alert just went out saying:

T-Alerts - Green Line E branch experiencing delays of about 20 minutes due to disabled train near Magoun Sq.
Maybe that's a typo??

Re: Ring of Steel: Fare Gates at BOS, BON, & BBY

so I count 30 gates in this diagram (with the option for more, I suppose) At 10 people per minute, that's 300 per minute, or 18,000 per hour throughput on the gates. And I'll wage the vendors *like* it. Since it'll likely decrease vagrancy and increase proven spending power per occupant. Very inter...

Scroll down to page 8 and you'll see that the gates are proposed for around the perimeter. I'm not sure how the vendors are going to feel about that though.

I've asked the MBTA real-time-data group about the weird vehicle IDs. If I remember correct, they said it's simply a bad read from the AVI. Usually it disappears at the next AVI pickup site. I think they said they had considered some sort of logic that would "throw out" a bad ID number (li...

I doubt there was a crossing tender at 1:25am, I believe the hours are approximately 6:00am to 10:00pm. I don't know the exact hours off hand, but that's just a ballpark. I found in some authoritative material (as of 2018) the West Medford High St. crossing tender is on duty 7AM to 2AM daily. Inter...

I thought I’d mention that the Fitchburg Route required cab signals up until the early 70’s. Most if not all B&M Buds cars were equipped. This was a different system than the one used on the Shoreline. I mention it here because this system was used into the MBTA years ( but before the T purchas...

Never mind that I guess. After 1404 was appearing for the trip north to Oak Grove, now it's 1402 showing for the trip south, signed for Wellington. Hopefully that's not the only trip for the day.

Lead Car 1404, Orange Line to Oak Grove, IN_TRANSIT_TO Green Street I think it's interesting that the same car ID is coming up on the data feed for both directions... or it seems like it. Anyone know if the AVL / AVI transmitter (or whatever it's called these days) is only on one cab end of the new...

For what it's worth... earlier today 3900-3904 were out doing Riverside --> GC --> Riverside, and right now 3908 is running alone at Fenway outbound. I can't help but think it's a tie-in with the new Orange Line cars' debut today. Might be an attempt to get as many new cars as possible out at the sa...

Here we go!!

Lead Car 1404, Orange Line to Forest Hills, STOPPED_AT Wellington predicted departure at 11:06 AM, location last updated: 11:05:36 AM

In case you didn't already know... you can follow the new cars as they debut today with my app... https://sites.harvard.edu/~wuensch/T/subway-map.html The trick is to hit the button "Show a detailed table" under the map, and then click the header on the column "Lead Car No." to s...

Apparently railroad operations does know (in real time) the complete vehicle ID numbers in every consist, coaches and locomotive. There are RFID tags on everything and RFID readers trackside. (The tags are the grey rectangles attached to the side, slightly higher than the level of the traps / high-l...

For what it's worth... my mapping app right now (2019-07-18 7:48PM) has a 2-car train of 3900 and 3903 arriving at Waban, outbound to Riverside. I haven't been watching closely for Type 9s lately, but I find it interesting that they would be out this late in the day... especially on a Sox home-game ...
