Re: Amtrak Peoria - Chicago Proposal

The problems are 1) the Prairie Marksman ended in East Peoria, away from everything. Even Pekin has all the development. 2) the service had a stop in Eureka for a very short time before they pulled the plug. 3) the Prairie Marksman was always a test service. The new service should be downtown and ma...

Both in operation. Jersey Avenue has a major reverse commuter crowd because of the industries nearby.

Metropark has the added advantage of being an intercity station that is not located in the middle of nowhere but rather within walking distance to places people actually want to go to, such as the surrounding residential areas, Oak Tree Road, the nearby business park, and Thomas Edison State Park. ...

Washington Secondary is the ex-DL&W from Port Morris to Phillipsburg via Netcong, Hackettstown, Port Murray, Washington.

I don't care about the 24 feet, but losing the portal built back then. And while I get safety regs, having to chop 24 feet of a tunnel a tiny bit too long under current safety regs to not have a ventilation system does seem a tad silly. Regardless, it's a needed step to get more of the line back in...

Both good and sad, but it is progress. Even beyond wanting full service restoration NYC to Scranton and beyond, getting this project done is a big step forward. It's 24ft of tunnel. Are we really going to need a mourning service for 24ft? It's not like they are choosing to cut the entire tunnel out...

Portions of the CNJ were severed when the I-78 bridge was built in the late 80s (opened late 1989). Which is a major reason why the advocacy groups suggest going to I-78 Exit 7 since the line is severed west of there and would require a much larger sum of money to build and not convenient to any la...

I just wonder if the money in return is gonna be worth the investment to extending service to Bloomsbury/Vulcanite/Phillipsburg area in any fashion. Amtrak would probably help with that ABE service they are proposing. I don't know. If I'm a Washington resident and I can either a) take a train via Ha...

Lack of development of the communities aside......what convenience is there to that? RVL would be faster if an extension were in the cards (I don't think it should be, maybe Hampton) or driving would be faster than the 2+ hours it would take to go from Phillipsburg to Washington to Hackettstown to D...

Considering that EIS was an eternity ago, not really surprised.

This will never happen because NS would absolutely lose their mind, but I would love the state of NJ buying Croxton for expansion as a terminal. Lengthen the Secaucus platforms and have trains terminate at Secaucus to help reduce load on Hoboken. (This would specifically apply to Hoboken Division tr...

The point remains the infrastructure even with a new tunnels needs to be upgraded in order to handle expansions. Even with the tunnels, and expansion of the tracks, you're going to overwhelm the stations. Exchange Place and Communipaw should've never been closed down. NJT (and Amtrak) need more ter...

Tunnel is 1,024ft long. They are apparently only cutting about 24ft out.

Re: Which towns had stations on the Middletown and Crawford?

The M&C was Bullville, Circleville, Thompson Ridge, Van Keurens and Pine Bush. All of them are part of the town of Crawford, save for Circleville, which is Wallkill.

Bloomingburg, NY was an O&W stop (High View).
