Re: CSX Fitchburg Secondary Discussion

This is old news by now, but the bridge over MA-2 in Leominster is now demolished. I drove past its former location today. Here's an article with some background information . According to the article, a new bridge will be installed at a later date to carry the 4.5 mile Twin Cities Rail Trail betwee...

This article seems to show a rendering of the arches over the outdoor concourse at the headhouse end of the platform. It looks a lot less like a gloomy underground station à la Penn Station or Back Bay than I originally feared.

Here's the rough track miles involved: From CPF185 to CPF "LJ" ---110 miles The 2014 PTC Agreement in question (available on Railway Age ) does not include this segment of track. It only lists 35 miles. Maybe NS would be willing to "Loan/Lease" some ACSES rigged units to PAS and...

Are they maxing out (8-10 car) the consists, since they have extra coaches but shortage of engines? Well... At least on the Worcester line you see more of the double deck sets. I haven't seen the 5 car flat sets as much. They're still running several sets of mostly flats with one or two bilevels. 5...

Small, largely wooden trains accelerated a lot faster, so multiple stations wasn't a problem. To add to this, the reason the stops STILL exist? Politics. Nobody wants to take the flak from even proposing to close a station. That's why Weston has three stops on the Fitchburg Line including Hastings ...

Re: 2015 Commuter Rail Delay Discussion Thread

Why? Once the tracks have been cleared, why would they run any slower than normal on a day like today? Boarding and deboarding is much slower. Stairs are icy, and doors aren't opening and closing reliably. And braking is severely hampered by the low temperatures and built-up snow. 502 rolled past a...

Dumping waste onto the ROW is not an acceptable practice anymore. All MBTA restroom cars use holding tanks.

On the Rotem cars the fresh water tank is heated and has a freeze dump valve, but I don't know about the gray water side of things.

As a journalist, I find that cover absolutely revolting. I would never publish that image anywhere, much less on a cover. I also wouldn't use a photo of Ms. Scott to illustrate this story. The T's decades of underfunding are not her fault, and visually connecting her to all of the agency's troubles ...

Speaking of commuter rail, originally the message was that it would be up and running on Wednesday at 6am, but now that message is gone from the T's website and it looks like its up in the air if commuter rail will be back tomorrow. They're running lighter "Recovery Schedules". Links to e...

Yes, the first foot of the mini-high platforms are removable for wide loads (such as large electrical transformers) to pass by the station. Normal freight trains fit past the platform just fine.

Why might they have chosen JFK as the southern end? Yard access? Could be. JFK also has multiple platform tracks available for trains to change ends, whereas at Andrew all trains would have to use the outbound platform since there's no facing point crossover nearby. (See page 22 of the Blue Book ) ...

Word is the 2008 is now an ice cube in Fitchburg... D You mean the block froze on another one? Well. That more or less confirms that a design flaw was responsible for killing the 2001.. No, it doesn't. First of all, railroad rumors should never be taken as fact. Sometimes they're true, but a lot of...

I've notified the T of a loose edge before, and it was fixed within the week.
