Oh, I spotted the train on Sunday. Several trips to and fro along the section currently closed to passengers. Testing both tracks in both directions and then using the crossovers in both directions. I expect testing to continue but what I saw was promising ... full speed trains (MAS).

Why would Metra want a locomotive without PTC? Or would the price be low enough that they could afford to add PTC and still be less expensive than other options?

Non-PTC engines have their place, but on a passenger line the engines need to be able to lead.

Metra / RTA still needs to come up with their portion of the funding for new cars, so there is still a chance that the new cars will never be ordered.

My employer provides all of the above but the antennae in a handheld phone does not do as good of a job as a large antennae that can be spread out in a 85' long passenger car. Besides if this were the case, we wouldn't have buildings with wifi, just a bunch of people on their data plan. But we all ...

It is not a good idea to mix vital communications such as PTC with non-essential services such as passenger wi-fi.

The question is why was the train not stopped when communication was lost or if the train could have been stopped at all. The "operator" (in the lead cab) has publicly claimed that he told the "supervisor" (operating from the sixth car) to stop and stay. Is there a record of tha...

The RLE will end at Altgeld Gardens, not Hegewisch. If NICTD follows the METRA fare schedule (as they usually do) prices will be competitive ($3.75 one way, $75 month). CTA $2.50 per trip or $75 per month. The combination pass (METRA and CTA included) would be $105, if offered on NICTD.

With all due respect, the train was stopped (by vandals) near the 79th St station and was moved into the 79th St station (using Rule 51) to discharge passengers. Not hypothetical. And per the rule, no passengers were carried past the first available station. Mr Norman has been (appropriately) correc...

My apologies to member "hxa", who DID post a rulebook in its entirely. I missed that, looks like we're over 70 replies so far. Therein, Rule 51 on Page 43 does allow for pushing a disabled train, as quoted here by "justalurker66". The intent was to help people who did not want t...

Number one job of the NTSB is to determine the facts. Not assumptions. Not claims made to the media. If it can be proven that the radio was actually out of service or unusable due to the environment that will be a factor in the incident. Were the operating rules sufficient to prevent the collision o...

It sounds like control gave the disabled train the track all the way to 96th St and expected the train to stop there while the in service train passed through. 20-20 hindsight they could have stopped all northbound moves at 96th St "just in case" the disabled train ran the signals. It is a...

Does anyone have a GOOD answer to WHY Amtrak would spend money to move Beech Grove? The most common excuse I see is some sort of "punishment" to the state of Indiana for not paying for the Hoosier State.

The current arrangement is working.
