Whenever a new law is enacted, there is always a grandfather clause which older entities are not subject to if they met the requirements in place at that time. This goes for anything: stations built before the ADA, drugs on the market before the FDA was created, etc. Sorry this is simply not the ca...

Re: New Station at North Brunswick?

Will North Brunswick have the same or similar service levels to Jersey Av, which is a park and ride with no weekend service? (I guess makes sense if North B. is also a park and ride and because of the track setup).

On Saturday, the crossing gates at New Milford Av could not make up their minds. When I got to the crossing, the gates were down. Then they went up halfway, came back down, and about 10 seconds later, went all the way up and the lights shut off. It was about time for #2114 to pass through. Just as I...

Good to see the PVL is actually prioritized for something!

Now if only the schedules can follow suit, especially to close the gap of no Hoboken-bound trains from 4pm to almost 10pm on weeknights.

They should restore the last direct train to NY which used to leave Cranford at 10:30 on weeknights. In addition, it would help if the schedule from Newark was more forgiving, but NJT's definition of rush hour ends right at 7pm so only hourly service is available afterwards. Or if instead of :12 pas...

As of last Wednesday, 7/13, the 2 P42 locomotives were still on the siding near the accident site in Mendon. Any idea when they will head over to be repaired?

I am on today's Southwest Chief (#3) and it has 2 P42's, Viewliner baggage, 2 sleepers, Diner, Lounge, 3 coaches. A little on the short side and limited availability for the 1% who find value in the experience of train travel.

Anyone have experience getting an upgrade to a room either a few days or the day of the trip? Is either preferred over the other? When I try looking up a room from end to end (which few I imagine travel the distance), it is sold out. But when I check intermediate endpoints, there are large swaths wh...

The Buckingham Branch Railroad (a short line in rural Virginia) has a square sign which says STOP Look Both Ways (with a double headed arrow) on all their passive crossings. Signage is white with black letters. I can't imagine an active ROW not having this sort of sign. Prayers to all affected by th...

You can't expect much from 40+ year railcars. The suspension and frames are worn out and overall the cars are at the end of their lifespan. The "seat cover" overhaul is only meant to give them a few more years of life. They are like the Arrows which bounce you around and are not 6 or 7 yea...

This is helpful, appreciate the input. Being that there are no real responses regarding the Chief, I reckon there is not much to see on this line, aside from Raton Pass, and the NM Rail Runner cars in the yard at Albuquerque. This is purely for experience and to provide a sense of "accomplishme...

Thanks for the video. At least NJT got some money out of them. Personally, I was never a fan of the Comet III's. The brakes were always temperamental when they were hodge-podge'd together with other Comets, causing sudden earthquakes. The interior resembled too much like the Arrows, but without any ...

A good rule of advise is "book a night at each transfer." Don't trust you'll make your connection. You got a two hour connection at LA Union Station, but given how late the Chief has been, it's recommended you schedule a day earlier on the Chief and hit a hotel for a day. For hotels, I do...

Hi All, It has been a while and I apologize if this was discussed previously. I am looking to see if Amtrak is good to travel between Chicago and LAX (arriving Fri or Sat 7/15, 7/16) and LAX and EMY (departing on Tues 7/19). Are there any anomalies I should worry about (i.e. is the Dining service no...
