Wabtec GE merger article from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. While not the best for the GE employees affected, I personally think it is much better than a spinoff such as what GE is doing with Healthcare which will end up being burdened with billions of dollars of debt the parent is loading onto them....

From the Pittsburgh Post Gazette: Wabtec-GE deal could put autonomous train technology on fast track Mr. Betler believes the deal has the potential to scale up operating systems that can drive locomotives, without the need for the two operating engineers now seen on most freight trains. According to GE, the decision on what they are going to do with the Transportation Division will come in the 2nd qtr 2018. The very latest is that they are exploring a merger with Wabtec. Seems like a good fit although no details released yet on how the merger would take place or who would be in con...

GE signed a $1 billion deal with Ukraine last week. It comes on top of the recent CN order in December and $900 million order for Kazakhstan in January. Why they would want to sell off this division for short term gains to offset the losses at the power division is beyond me. GE Transportation has s...

A lot of rumors but nothing official to report. Told us there has been interest but still no decision on whether it will be a sale, merger, or spinoff.

I hope so too but hard to say at this point. The Erie paper makes it sound as though this is not a done deal, that GE is just considering the move. That is not true. Rafael sent out an email this morning before the big meeting that said GETS will be divested from GE. Basically that they are explorin...

Monday is the day John Flannery is supposed to outline his plan at the GE Investor Update starting at 9am. Everything is shipped by truck. There is a CN (Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad) rail line directly behind the plant but it is not utilized by GE for shipping.

I saw a pair of FECR locomotives with a matching LNG tender between them at the Erie plant off Franklin Ave this past Saturday. The tender was about 1/2 the size of an oil tank car. Could kick myself for not getting a picture.
