Was passing Peachtree station this afternoon and it looked like today’s Cresent departure (20/05)was being prepped (ca 13:30h). Looked like a standard consist with a AMII coaches, AMII lounge, VII diner, and VI sleepers, but noticed what looked like an extra sleeper of the VII variety (PH3 striping,...

The routing the website shows is, take the Main/Bergen train to Secaucus, transfer to a train going to Newark Broad, then wait for the train to Boonton. So, my first question is, the better route is to take the Main/Bergen train to Hoboken and then get the (same) Boonton train. If I did this route,...

I tend to think its a second phase of power coming online into the propulsion system as the engine throttles up but I don't really know the correct terminology or the electrical mechanics. Sounds like the inverters are just changing carrier frequency a bit. It's pretty normal for inverters these da...

Couple of days late posting, but here it goes... While boarding 2126 (7), I caught 602 on Track 20 at WUS. She was just sitting there for all to admire up close and personal. I managed to snap a couple of photos with my iPhone while boarding. 001_ACS-64 #602 - WUS TK 20.JPG 002_ACS-64 #602 - WUS TK ...

I reccomend the site http://www.parailfan.com.." onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Yes it is primarily a PA site, but very helpful for the NS Lehigh Line. If you click on train symbols, it will take you to this page: http://www.parailfan.com/Database/search.php" onclick=&...

Geez... Single level equipment is not that bad and I welcome the Comets back to the RVL. I do not find the Multilevels considerably more comfortable, and sometimes I find them a nuisance... I realize I am not the peek demographic. I "commute" regularly to NWK where I connect to Amtrak or a...

The term stuck leaves a lot to interpretation. I have been on both Amtrak and NJT trains that got stuck in the tunnel, though more the former rather than the later. If the motors' circuit breaker trips, it may not be possible to reset it if the cab car is leading. That is what the "protect"...

One-seat off peak rides begin March 2. 10AM-2PM arrivals to NYP, 11AM-3PM departures, weekdays only. Later they are planning on doing the same for 8PM-1AM trains. So looks like 4-5 trains a day each way initially, and the same amount added with the later expansion. Probably not really all that usef...

Not to be too picky, but I think the space is needed for hardware :-)

NJT released an updated app today. Looks like e-ticketing has expanded to include Main/Bergen, Port Jervis and Medowlands service in addition to the PVL pilot.

That makes sense... I was in the back of the train when we stopped. Knew we were shy of Rosell Park, but not by how much. At the time some rail fan posted on the Lehigh Line Yahoo group that we were clear Rosell Park. I replied at the time - not my half of the train. That was all I knew.

One of my friends caught the train at Potter, westbound on the LV. He said it looked like you were at full track speed. I tracked the speed with an app on my iPhone... Not perfect, but it showed us running at about 50-55 mph at least up to Clinton. There were two exceptions - We were held at Aldene...
