Looks like they have about 300 feet of working space from Cathedral Avenue. How high are they raising the Cherry Valley Avenue bridge?

The other unusual items are the movable crossing points. There was one at Mineola until the third track project eliminated the crossing. Also many double slip switches at Jamaica use them as well. Here is how Mineola looked: nassautower05171979SteveRothaugimg010.jpg And here is a slip switch at Jama...

Looking at Google Earth, the turntable looks like it was isolated at least in 1994.

I see the turnout for OBY-2 is spiked normal for now. So, Oyster Bay traffic will start on OBY-1 then crossover to OBY-2, right?

Nassau turnout numbers

Hey, one I can answer. The loco is an Alco Century 420. The Long Island purchased two batches. The first were the L-1 (200-221) purchased in late 1963. The others purchased several years later (1968?) were the L-2 model (different trucks was the big difference) - numbers 222-229. All were four wheel...

Well said. I would ask how folks would react if teams adopted other "colorful" racial names. Having grown up in Brooklyn I have a decent list of those colorful names... use your imagination. :-)

Okay, so the physics question above was a trick question meant to illustrate the problem with attempting to average speeds. The common response is 90 mph, but in actuality the car would have to go an infinite speed to average out to 60 mph. It takes two minutes to go one mile at 30 mph,and to averag...

So, your example of 60 to 90 minutes for a 40 mile run has quite a big range. Let's look at an old physics problem which kind of illustrates the issue. Please try to answer. Given a hill which is two miles long (one mile up,one mile down), if a car goes up the hill at 30 miles an hour, how fast must...
