Re: New stations built after Amtrak started

Amtrak sort of did with the temporary 'Amshack' station for about two years approx 2011-2013 until the Denver station complex rehab was finished.

Actually up to sometime around late 1981. Tried to ride the old Reading RDC direct service but it was gone by then.

Re: Lake Shore Limited

Mr. Norman referred to it as "...the one-time premier passenger train market in the world..." not the premier passenger train in the world. As late as the mid-1950s there were close to twenty trains each direction per day in that market between the New York Central, Erie, Lackawanna/Nickel Plate, B...

Looks like the PP former Hi-level Lounges were built for El Cap service Budd 1956.

Atlanta was included in a display train in CUS track 1 today Saturday.

Could the Atlanta depart Chicago on 48?

Re: Buffalo Central Station under Amtrak (Past, Present, Fut

EL didn't run any passenger trains post A-day other than the Cleveland commuter train and certain NJT services, right? I believe EL ran their Lake Cities intercity up to January, 1970. Not sure if the EL Lakes Cities stopped at the EL station site, certainly not up to 1984. Must be a media typo err...

I might venture to say President Ford may have been riding the Amtrak #10000 Track Inspection Car. That was Amtrak's "bus" car during that era. I believe it was a former Anhsr Busch bus car. Looks very much like it with the open rear platform and wrap around fluting. BTW, those pics bring back many ...

Agreed!

The Annapolis blog ad has been getting around. My son showed me the blog somewhere on facebook the other evening.

BTW, is that an Amtrak Cardinal poster on the far wall of the car? Hmmm! :-D

Re: How many stations have you been to?

Hello to all. Thought I would join the game. Here's a listing of Amtrak stations I either boarded, departed, or walked through (not just on/off the platform). Here we go: Albany-Rennslr, NY – (old Amshack) Albany-Rennslr, NY – (current new station) Atlanta, GA Bloomington, IL – (former GM&O station)...

Re: Early Amtrak map used in Silver Streak movie?

I too seem to recall seeing that map, or at least a close variation of that map, from several Amtrak travels during the 70's (mainly #40-#41). That Dorin pic shows a very unique car interior, before the red and purple color splash. Perhaps a sleeper-lounge or a pre-VIA pub car?

Re: Former Amtrak Slumbercoach assignments (and an F40PH ?)

Most interesting thread about the now long gone but popular slumbercoach sleeper cars (and F-40s). Just wanted to add that for a short period of time (early 1990s?) #50-51 Cardinal also featured the slumbercoach cars (along with full dining and lounge services!) besides 40-41 and 48-49. Rode in an e...

After reading through this thread, I pulled out my copy of the March 1978 Guide - North American passenger travel edition United States, Canada, and Mexico. Purchased it at the NRPC offices then on 33rd Street, NYC. Cover highlights include: additional San Diegan, Champion resumes services, USA Rail...

Did any of you encounter a former NH car with an Amfleet style interior on Amtrak in the 1970s? ----------------------------------------------------------- If I may add, my written notes in my copy of Amtrak Car Spotter - third edition list those ex-NH (one CRIP) coaches were either auctioned/retir...

Re: Amtrak On-Time Performance (OTP) Delays Reroutes Annulle

Anyone? From the website, it appears that 5 (27) and 3 (27) are being "fleeted", or running on one another's markers CHI-GBB. I noted the absence of 5 (27) on my walk today - and for that matter any action whatever on the BNSF. That is rare to say the least. Greetings from on board 22. Just a guess...
