Re: Amtrak: Connects US // American Jobs Plan Infrastructure Legislation

I doubt very much this will happen. Some kind of corridor service on the other hand does not seem far fetched at all. Idaho would get a comparative bargain in almost any situation because of minimal or less mileage inside Idaho.

The notable statistic to compare would be where Amtrak is nationally in terms of ridership recovery or other state corridors.

It's interesting to see how yet again we "discover" as it were one of the inefficiencies of the legacy carrier model ... Long trains needing four engines (for example the famous A+B+B+A sets) in order to make track speed and hold a tight timetable with 13+ car consists ... Empire Service m...

Build two new tubes and then (likely after the first one opens) repair the ones already in place. Why do we keep having to note to posters that the new bores have to be both operational before they can be used for revenue trains ? Present fire codes require operational cross escape tubes every 800 ...

Understood. And I appreciate that consists are longer than they have been in past. However, that is simply not a long term formula for growth. Longer trains have a multitude of issues that shorter consists don't. I can't say for sure but my impression is that on non-electricied corridor service (die...

I think it almost certainly is. The exiting tunnels will get repaired eventually and that's one of the things I do like about Gateway. Build two new tubes and then (likely after the first one opens) repair the ones already in place.

Again Amtrak is causing over sold conditions by limiting number of passenger cars. When will the pols catch on that Amtrak seems to be limiting passengers and revenue ? No one is answering these questions. Amtrak's approach is not to lengthen trains but to increase frequencies and incrementally gro...

Usually when this happens they're out for maintenance. All at once sounds like some kid of major overhaul was needed. I doubt both engines are running. One might be used for HEP.

-- but even in the heyday of the Great Steel Fleet I doubt there was true hourly daytime service between Albany and Buffalo even including some nameless mail-and-express locals that probably took 8 hours to cover the ~300mi. Ticket agents must be Amtrak employees. There is a collective bargaining issue which I've seen volunteers have to tap dance around at times. Station cleaning at smaller stops is often handled by local government, volunteer organizations, contractors or the landlords (when Amtrak doesn't own). One th...

Why is it strange? Look at lumber prices (well right up until the last week or so). Also finally seeing the LPG volume that the facility was expanded to handle. It seemed easier to believe that somehow the rail shipper volume increases might not pan out as has been the case so many times elsewhere....

Finger Lakes also runs excursions. I would keep my eyes open for that possibility if NNEPRA can't get permission from Amtrak to run best year.

The station agent requirement means every station with more than 14,600 passengers per year will get an agent. That is an *enormous* number of new agents to be hired. Likely in the hundreds. Here's is a preliminary sample from Indiana: 1. South Bend (SOB) 2. Elkhart (EKH) 3. Waterloo (WTI) I can't e...
