THERE WAS A LIST OF ALL THE HEAVEYWHEIGHT CARS POSTED BY JHDEASY A LONG TIME AGO. IF I FIND IT I WILL REPOST IT. HE IS A PRIVATE CAR OWNER.

I think the real reason is that since the 3-track project is under budget, the LIRR might use the surplus to electrify to OB and do away with the diesels!

In 1966 I took Driver Ed with an instructor who was an avid LIRR/Motor Parkway enthusiast. One day we passed north of Stewart Ave and saw abandoned LIRR structures like a freight house etc. I have never seen any photos of the area from north of Hempstead Crossing to Mineola. In later years I only re...

, I'm worried about what we are going to do when it comes to recycling them, and the fact that when disposing of it in anyway it is poisonous to humans and animals.
Someone should ask the auto industry what they are doing with their LION batteries!

Will Amtrak ever directly serve Long Island? Only time will tell if something can be worked out...MACTRAXX
Originally, Amtrak was looking to bypass southern Conn with a LI path to RI via a tunnel or bridge thru Plum Island.

Having had the opportunity to ride the GE Garret turbo trains for a week, they were great from a riders point of view They ran about 15-20 minutes faster than the diesel trains did between Ronkonkoma and Jamaica. To bad they were noisy and fuel hogs. The failure of the turbines lead to the electrifi...

This is why the second track to Ronkonkoma went in so fast. Great video!

Are all of the diesels which the NYC Subway currently roster diesel/electric, or dual-mode, meaning that it can run on the third rail? Or are there still some diesels on the NYC Subway's fleet that only run on diesel and not on the third rail. The latest diesel/electrics of the NYC Subways are the ...

Just this past week, I had to detour because CSX was blocking Rte. 462. I had a thread here with all my pictures of Wildwood, but the pictures are all gone. I guess that when they did an update of this website, they went bye-bye.

Some observations on my part. 1- the north and south legs of the wye were rebuilt when the two crossings at US301 were rebuilt. No work was done on the tail track next to CR44a. 2- The tail was cut back in stages. In the 50"s it went to Leesburg (where Romax is.) More recently, with the Village...

The Texas Tower off of Montauk was decommissioned on March 25 1963. All it's equipment had to be removed so the Russians couldn't get their hands on it. I still think that was why the REX train was in Montauk. Once the equipment was all at Montauk AFB, it was shipped out.

Far to many cars for the bike excursions.
Montauk AFB was 1-upgrading it's equipment and 2- they were bring up their Texas Tower which was in service until 1963. It was decommissioned then after a hurricane sank and killed the staff of the New Jersey Tower.

Possibly for Montauk Air Force Base. The radar station was upgrading its equipment. Also base personnel changes. It is now a NYS Park.
