Re: Amtrak Saddest Stations? <POLL QUESTION>

South Bend is just so very depressing. I took the LSL for 8 months straight, every weekend, from CHI to Depew (BUF) and I always felt a little melancholy when we'd pull up next to that shack, especially in the middle of winter. It's literally just an open-faced shack, not even a seat. Heck, the most...

Jail is for criminals. There has been no hint of Mr. Bostian committing a crime punishable by jail time. Civil action, apparently already rolling out as we speak, will be against Amtrak, et al - they're the ones with the deep pockets. However, make no mistake about it: there will be criminal action...

In any event - I'm still leaning heavily toward the projectile theory, having read everyone's (mostly everyone's) well-written posts thus far. I am, however, also leaning somewhat toward the concept that the engineer was simply under the impression that he had left the second turn and was accelerati...

Revenue from ad-wrapping cars isn't nearly as plentiful as you'd think it is, and demand for such advertising rises and falls with the whims of the economy. No, no - not wrapping - I mean that 1-foot thick banner of space on the inside that exists between the first and second level of the car (basi...

What continues to baffle me is why Metra doesn't put more emphasis on advertising in their cars. There's all that dead space between the first and second level, where a simple banner type advertisement would work perfectly. The best example of this can easily be seen on the L and in PACE buses. It s...

I was at the same Morton Grove station about a year ago when a commuter ran across the tracks from east to west, right in front of the 2142, which had left Glenview as an express and wasn't due to stop again until Western Avenue. The next train at MG was in just another 7 minutes, but he must have t...

One of the people I spoke to at the station said that as well - the 120 layed on the horn, then eventually rolled through and stopped.

I feel particularly badly for the crew. I can't imagine what that must be like.

NCS #120 hits, kills pedestrian

I was out with a friend on Thursday, 03/29/12, and at the end of the evening she dropped me at the Morton Grove station at about 10:30. When we arrived, we saw quite a few emergency vehicles, and there was a temporary spotlight that was pointing on the tracks, which I instantly knew was not a good s...

Electircal outlets?

Ok... did I dream this or did it really happen? About a month ago on the MDN, I could *swear* that I walked through a car that had electrical outlets between at least a few of the seats. What actually got my attention was a small bit of signage as I entered the car, something to the effect that the ...

Well that's what I had been wondering - if the corn is leaking out of the bottom of those hopper-type cars, it should be primarily on the tracks. I'm finding it up on the platform, and scattered back to the grass level sometimes. I mean, corn isn't carried in open-topped cars is it? Or maybe it is. ...

Thanks Tadman. Yeah, I was much more active when I rode the Lakeshore Limited every week. I still keep up on Amtrak news (like the derailment on 02/01/2012), and I read the boards on occasion - just haven't participated as much. Anyway, the corn thing - freight makes sense, except that I also see th...

And that would make perfect sense to me, except for one thing: I won't see any corn on Monday, for example. Then, on Tuesday, it's there.. but on both sides of the tracks. I noticed this in particular at the Lake Forest Mil-N station a while back. Sure, it's possible that it's frieght trains going b...

So, I haven't been around in a while (kind of fell off the Amtrak board after I stopped commuting back and forth from CHI to BUF a few years ago). However, I'm still a daily Metra rider, and there's something that I've noticed that I've always wanted to ask about. I've seen this all along the Mil_No...

Jus.. justice served? Seriously?

I have no love for taggers myself, but in your world, people who trespass or tag should be sentenced to *death*??

How very sad, indeed.

Otto's point still stands, Miss AZDesertGal - the menu description matched the meal that you were served.

Arguing that fact only makes your response seem impetuous at best.
