Re: Rail Trail Security (New England Specific)

Article says police indicate no foul play suspected. I have walked/biked numerous rail trails in Eastern Massachusetts and Southern NH and have yet to find one trail that I have found to be dangerous. I haven't heard of any violent activities on rail trails. They are already safe.

Re: The Stony Brook Branch

Almost... the bridge where they cross the Stony Brook just west of 307 needs some work. There's a hole in the deck of the bridge, and I believe the footings are getting bad as well. But besides that all they need to do is get 303 to NC up to 25, and the entire thing will be 25. What about the bridg...

Re: Nashua, Acton and Boston Rail Trail Sign

Went by today 7/20/2019 sign hasn't changed. I guess nobody really cares. We have "fake news" I guess we can have "fake history."

Re: Gardner Gawking

The duplex ( 2 frequency system) that Pan Am uses is hard to monitor with a scanner since it defeats the "delay" feature that holds the radio on the channel for a short time awaiting the response from the other person. The only way to monitor reliably is to set up one scanner on 161.16 the other on ...

Re: Green Line Expansion Beyond Lechmere

The Red line should probably go to Hanscom (more or less) in the Rt. 2 median strip (there's little sense to the current multiple lanes funneling down to 2 at Alewife) and then up 128. Use the existing rest area as the park-n-ride. That hill going through the rock cut between the retaining walls up...

Re: Derailment Near Southampton Yard

I assume DB is Dorchester Branch? What is MM? I work in this area periodically and noticed that there were more trains sitting for long periods and moving a lot more slowly this week. Won"t this impact schedules?

Re: Gardner Gawking

I have never heard of "MCI Crossing" before, do you have a location? Could this be the former "No Name Crossing" which I believe was somewhere near the Hill yard?

Re: Pan Am Worcester Main Line

If it's working it should be on 161.16, but your reception depends on how far you are from that detector. Your frequency of 161.54 is not a Pan Am channel, perhaps it is a typo of 161.52 the train to dispatcher frequency.

Re: Old Colony Bridge over Mass Pike in Framingham

I'm bringing up this old thread to post a link to a nice picture on NERAIL by Ron DeFilippo from 1972 of a Penn Central freight crossing this bridge. The train, bridge, and track all look in very good shape. http://photos.nerail.org/showpic/?photo=2019031607264220296.jpg&order=bydate&page=1&key=&phot...

Re: Pan Am Worcester Main Line

Interesting that Mass DOT estimates the cost of replacing 7.6 miles of track and ties at about $14,000,000 and Pan Am estimates the cost at $7,000,000 ! Also ironic that if this does happen Pan Am would be required to maintain track to class 4 (60 mph max freight) but trains will be still restricted...

Re: Pan Am Worcester Main Line

It's Herzog's "multi-purpose machine" check out the link here https://www.herzog.com/innovation/on-track-maintenance-material-distribution-and-pick-up-machine/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Looks like it does a lot of track construction/ maintenance duties. I saw it (or an identical...
