Any estimate on how many miles these have on them?

A conservative number might be in the neighborhood of 2,600,000 miles.

That's based on an average of 250 miles a day X 5 days a week times 52 weeks in a year X 40 years +150,000 for 40 years of weekends miles.

They should also give one pair of the 1K cars to Hollywood. Whenever a movie takes place in DC they always use railcars that look nothing like the real Metro cars.

The reason why that is done is because the cost of shooting interiors is cheaper when done on other transit properties.

The cost of shipping a pair across the country would likely cost more then shooting on another transit property. A better idea would be to stick a pair in a warehouse controlled by the District of Columbia Office of Motion Picture and Television Development.

1273 and 1272 in Baltimore 6:23 PM 03 26 2016.

The car on the right (1273) had it trucks removed today, yesterday it had trucks under it.

Objects on right are the ramps segment used to unload the cars from the trailer, objects center are traction motors.

How can that be 03/26/16 when today is 03/24/16?

Anyone know what the planned date for scrapping the 4k's are? I'm guessing they won't start until all the 1k's are gone.

WMATAGMOAGH who posts here on occasion suggested to me, after I informed of the scrapping, that the Track Geometry Car might be fitted to preform that function.

I noted 1027 in revenue service last December. Perhaps this is is the first pair of cars to be scrapped from revenue service? Could they be done with getting rid of the ~40+ accident-damaged/decommissioned ones already?

I am surprised that WMATA is not keeping a few motorless 1000's around as rolling tool sheds/parts lockers for both track and platform maintenance crews.

Given they are going to be busy doing such from here on out, you'd think.......

I'll be dammed that looks like 1028! I noticed the car was gone from Brentwood on Monday when I did a check ride.....

I'm in the process of trying to eyeball all remaining 1Ks in revenue service. WMATA Spokesman Dan Stessel said revenue cars would start later this month......

My bad, you're right it is 1028 not 1027.

This reddit.com post says 1004 - 1005 and 1246 - 1247 are next in line because of lack of spar parts.

Interesting 1092-1093 is being converted as a money train since 1093 was frequently being cited for malfunctioning AC

But the thing that I don't understand is why are they setting up new money trains with 1000 series cars? Couldn't they just roll with 8000-8003 and then fix up the 5000s when they are ready to be decommissioned?

Why not use the 4k's for the money train?

Also, since the next order of rail cars will be numbered 8000, they will have to give the money train a different series number.

I realize that but there's no point in doing now especially since they haven't even designed the 8000 series/finished getting the 7000 series

Something must be up with the existing stock
