Happened to find this picture online, apparently taken inside the safety training center at New Carrollton. I wonder which cars these are? From the look of it they have sustained some collision damage towards the center. For those who are unfamiliar with the center, this is the building with the slanted "comet" passenger car situated outside, visible from Orange line trains.

The EXIF data says the picture was taken on 04 28 2009. Both cars appear to be Breda's. It also looks like both cars have the cabs facing in the same direction. I think one of those cars is 3191 from the Shady Grove wreck and the other cars maybe either 4018 or 4019 from the Woodley Park-Zoo wreck.

4018-4019 were both put back into service after 4018 got fitted with a new front (4018 now has a 3000-style front).

I believe that the training cars in question are 3252 and 3191 - the cars that collided and telescoped in the 1996 Shady Grove accident. Those are the only Breda cars that are unaccounted for. The mates of those two cars are now 3290-1, and all other Bredas are in active service.

Look like they did one hell of a job putting 3252 back together.

From NTSB Shady Grove Wreck Report:

Pages 7 and 10
"Car 3252, the lead car of train T-111, sustained the most extensive damage. The shell of the car became partially disengaged from the frame and came to rest partially on top of the lead car of the gap train. (See figure 5.) The fiberglass end cowl of the car was pushed inside the carbody, and the end underframe assembly moved rearward 10 as a unit, collapsing several of the transverse beams aft of the unit, buckling the floor, and upsetting passenger seats. The operator’s compartment was completely crushed. (See figure 6.)"

Strictly speaking, the impact caused the front end underframe assembly to remain stationary, or nearly so, while inertia drove the rear of the car forward.

Page 24
"The impact sustained by the lead car (3252) of Train T-111 sheared the huck bolt fasteners attaching the bolster to the side sills, broke the welds attaching the transverse members of the draft sill to the side sill, and sheared off the ends of the side sill. The ends of the side sills remained attached to the front end sill. The side sills, once free of the end underframe assembly, moved outward and allowed the end underframe assembly to move rearward as a unit relative to the body shell. The lead car of the gap train telescoped approximately 21 feet into car 3252."

I thought those training cars were fake...but one can clearly see from the pics that they aren't. What cars would be out of service besides the ones mentioned above?
