I know that CP5 is a good railfanning spot but the last few times I've be there I saw 2, 1, or sometimes no trains at all when I was there. When is the optimal time to be there, if any? When is there the most traffic?

on Sundays when i went in the fall, usually around 3:30-4:00 you will see a stack train and 4:45 to 8 you would get a lot of action, however this could have changed

Its hit or miss. Some days it can be completely dead others can be a flood gate of trains. I live up near MP13 and hear non-stop horns from 4pm on. I hear them headed s/b from new milford ave all the way to new bridge. On a cool night you can hear the n/b coming up the straight thru Teaneck. ohh and mornings are pretty busy with stack trains too.
