NYSW 3014 looks none the worse for wear from a distance after htting a dump truck in Oakland, NJ 4/3/2006. It is finally getting underway with the SU-100 6 hours after the deady crash. The dump truck had been dragged about 50 feet and then exploded into flames killing the occupants inside.

AOK centerbeam flat 26828's load of lumber was charred when the dump truck that was hit by the SU-100 exploded into flames. It is seen crossing Oakland trestle after the SU-100 finally got under way 6 hours after the deadly accident.

Enjoy!!

I think so. There were two people from Conneticut there when the WS2/SU-100 finally got underway. They seemed "ok" at the time, but "Missing Link's" post afterwords has definitely given me a bad impression of Conneticut railfans. How anyone can think anything good could have come of that tragedy is beyond me.

I used to live up in this neck of the woods for 2 years, just a mile or so west of the accident, and about 40 yd. from the track. Could watch the trains from the kitchen window too! Recall a few #142 excursions and the night rumbler Q-271 w/them autoracks pounding the ancient 100 lb. stick rail. The trains would add some entertainment to an otherwise semi-rural locale. The gateless crossings and 100 lb. rail added to the rural feel of the locality, IMO.

I have been living about 3-4 blocks away from ther NYSW main around MP 33 for the past twenty two years. Before they put in the welded rail the trains would shake my windows! I can remember when they started running the stack trains after reopening Sparta Mountain. I actually liked to be awakened to the sounds of SD45's in run 8 in the middle of the night back before my need for closed windows and air conditioning. It sounded like they were moving alot faster than they were. Or even better yet listening to GP18's switching out Bergen Transfer in the middle of the night. Unfortunately nowadays there is so much noise between the AC and other things running in the house that I can barely hear the trains anymore. If I want a heads up these days, it either hoping I can hear the trains call by Butler or hope the folks are awake on the Yahoo groups.

I once watched the WS-4 and SU-99 meet at the junction at night. A gigantic a B40 was the switcher on WS-4 for that transfer facility in Riverdale.

I meant it was a good photo op. Obviously people dying is a horrible thing. Don't jump on the bandwagon, I think they misunderstood me and took it out of context. and it shouldn't reflect on anyone in general from anywhere. I promote jersey alot, and lived there on and off for 6 years. anybody who disses jersey has only been on the turnpike, which is horrible through connecticut too. My friend thought I was pretty friendly and out going when we were hanging out there. most other railfans can be a clique-y bunch, and hardly mix at all

What MP # is Pierson Miller Drive (i.e. the garden apartments converted into condos)? You must be right near that unprotected crossing between Pierson Miller and Edison, heh? Recall several nights with WS local fouling the crossing at Pierson Miller. Do you recall too?

Pierson Miller Dr is MP 33.40. I would be closer to MP 33.15. (In between Pool Hollow Road, the unprotected private crossing and Oakland Steam West, the West crossing for Bergen Transfer) Of course I live about three blocks away from the tracks themselves so I wouldnt know what crossings the WS locals would be fouling, but I could certainly hear those GP18's winding up as they were switching!

Did you ever go out to chase the pre-9/11 morning SU100 which brought down the DL&W painted E8's for the Hoboken Festival?

I actually went into work earlier that day [7:15 am] as SU100 crossed 202 in Oakland. At least two Tri-Staters (and I will refrain from mentioning names here) had severely hyped up the power and consist of this SU100 as it was preparing to depart Bingo. They said that SD45's were lead power with possibility of the E8's being tapped for power plus a lengthy consist behind it. What showed up that morning was a pair of B40s, the E8s in tow, and a meager ten (10) freight cars trailing. Looked more like a WS local to me.
