Here is an old Penn Central Properties "FOR SALE" sign at Norwood, NJ These signs sprang up like toadstools all along the River Line right of way after the creation of Conrail in 1976. The reason for the signs was that Conrail only got enough property to run the railroad. Any excess property was retained by the Penn Central Corporation and sold over the years. This is one of the very few or maybe the very last sign of its kind in existance as I have not seen any others in my travels. Its hard to believe this sign has lasted for over thirty years!!
