From a photograph that I had purchased a few years ago, I recently determined that the shot of the J class locomotive # 601 steaming out of the tunnel was taken at Castle Rock-Pembroke, Virginia. One thing leads to another and I began to review the New River Division. Why were there two sets of tracks on either side of the river? Was this to accommodate the traffic loads or separate the types of traffic i.e. freight/passenger? Did the lines rejoin again further west?
