Amtrak already has extra diners, and is soon to have an influx of new sleepers. Wouldn't it be easier to just fund a 2nd Adirondack run of just 3 sleepers, a diner, and business-cafe car (for some extra revenue seats)? They could make it an extension of 241 northbound and 232/250 southbound and ditch / pickup the four regular coaches at ALB, which would make the trip almost 12 hours shifted from the Adirondack schedule. Heck they could keep one coach and offer stops at Schenectady, Saratoga, and Plattsburgh for better returns on investment (or possibly as a way to get some NYS subsidy money for the journey).
