Very, very well said. Now if we could only get the rest of America to start thinking this way,the country would be in much better shape down the road.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if there are photos of that bottle-neck underpass on Water Street just north of the Eberhart Road intersection? I know that the rail overpass was removed in the '90's. I often tell people about how you had to stop your car and beep the horn to make sure there wasn't another car around that blind corner. Most people, who weren't familiar with Darktown/Hokendauqua back then, don't really understand what I'm describing. It's one of those things that's better understood with a visual aid rather than a verbal description.

keith40 great post. having been in the RR industry and working these areas, the time has long passed for bringing back the tracks and trains, but it is just not part of the plan. the railroads will continue to chase away business/not accept new, and it is esp bad now as some are on the MASSIVE govt hand out programs, that's why you see the green ads on TV and multi 100 million van terminals being built on hand out money.

In Mike Bednars book published in 2009 there is a pic of the exact overpass you are speaking about with the IRR Baldin, caboose, and 6 cement hoppers going over the Water St overpass. It was dated 1966.
