Whatever work the 07-12-2011 AY-4 had to do, it was apparently judged that 343's four axles weren't going to be sufficient, so it was worked out that 343 would swap with ED495 leader 602. AY-4 could thus increase its axle count by 50%. The swap took place up on the Brook so the normal business of 417/418, 419/420 and FI-1 plus a CPF-WL to CPF-Slab City trip by the Weed Sprayer could take place unimpeded. ED495 was east of Ayer Platform on 1 with NewBlues 602 and 350 plus 14 with a good percentage of Ciment Quebec hoppers and utility-pole bulkhead flats at 0929. OldPaint 343 then came off the east wye at 0932, and discussions between and among AY-4, ED495, D-3, and D-2 took place over the next period of time, with AY-4 602 calling D-3 at 1034.
