This morning I noticed 3 of the older Comet commuter coaches, still in NJ Transit colors, next to the artillery and ammunition plant in downtown Scranton, PA. The cars all appear in very good condition and are parked, coupled together as a unit, beneath the massive, yellow gantry crane on the south-west side of the plant.

Does anyone know why these cars are here and what their final destination is?

They belong to the Erie Lackawanna Dining Car Preservation Society. Once the weather gets warm they will get a good cleaning and be restored to their EL-era appearance. They will be used in occasional excursion service to help us raise funds for our various dining car restorations.

Excellent. Thank you very much!

And to think, I was going to go start another rumor on the "Lackawanna Cutoff" thread...
