How many ALCO S3s survive. One I know is BRT 0409 in Boston.

Both Brooks-Scanlon S-3's exist but are stored.
A Simpson Timber S-3 also exists somewhere in California.
There's plenty if you look around.

Here's a cool one photographed today at a power plant in Virginia: B&M 1173...still has builders plate, original numberboards, and final inspection report still in holder in cab dated January 17, 1967. It reads: "Final Report. Diesel Locomotive 1173 permanently retired from service on January 19, 1965 on account of being sold to Virginia Electric and Power Co., Richmond, VA, and will not again be used by this company."
