Hello All!
I was thinking about chasing the Ice Harvest Festival Train from Steamtown to Tobyhanna on Jan 15th. I thought some photos and movies of steam operating in snow would be a great catch, as most tourist/historic operations put their steam locos in hibernation for the winter months. However, I have a few questions.
Is this train 'chase-able'? I ask this because I've been on an excursion from Steamtown to the Water Gap, and know that the train picks up quite a bit of speed, especially bwtween Larsen Lake and the Army Depot. I know i'm probably not going to catch this train at 10 different points along the line, but I would be happy with 3 or 4 if it's even possible. I've chased RBMN 425 from Port Clinton to Jim Thorpe before, so i'm curious on the degree of difficulty of trying to stay ahead of this train compared to 425. I'm pretty familiar with the area, as the family used to own a lakehouse in the area, so that should help.
If anyone has any suggestions or tips, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike
